Now here’s a question we get regular so it’s a natural fit for our “You Asked” column.
You’ve asked: “Is Vega raw?”

As most of you likely know, to be considered raw, food cannot be heated about 118 degrees. Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer is 30% raw by weight. The primary raw ingredients are hemp at 20g per serving and ChlorEssence at 2.5g per serving. Both the yellow pea and brown rice are heated to improve digestibility and absorption to 130 degrees due to friction in the milling process. Our flax is not raw as it is flash pasteurized – a requirement to make it shelf stable because it is whole flax, micro-milled and not flax meal.

That’s the scoop!

Thanks for this! I was looking around on the forum and this is super comprehensive! And I have been wondering if I no longer needed my additional multivitamins and supplements. Sheila's comment is good to hear.

Do you know if I still need my calcium pills though? It's hard to get calcium in anything these days...at least the quantity I need.

And you know what? After initially thinking that it was really expensive, I've been able to cut out ALL my vitamin, mineral and food supplements because it has everything in it already. It's actually saving me a ton of money. I agree, Yay!!

Thank you so much for posting this information! I've been wondering whether it's raw, so I was glad to get the scoop here. As a bonus, I loved reading briefly a reminder of what Optimizer contains - it's so incredibly healthy. I recently looked at some other powders at my local health food store and was shocked at how crappy the ingredients are. Yay, Vega!
