share. learn. thrive!
As a full time fitness trainer, I have to eat. A lot. It's gotten to the point that I see food mainly as fuel instead of something to be enjoyed. Thankfully I have a partner who's an amazing cook who reminds me sometimes of the latter.
Take smoothies, for example. A friend who saw me make one recently got very queasy at the sight of me throwing a cup of dry oatmeal and 3 tbsp of ground flax seeds on top a couple bananas and frozen wheatgrass cubes. The big scoop of green Vega berry protein powder didn't help, no matter how much I told her it actually helped it taste palatable. But she was right. The whole thing doesn't do much for my tastebuds. I make it, I drink it, and I cross a bunch of calories off my daily intake.
But then I was out of protein (gasp!). Searching through my cupboards I found a package of Vega Energizing Smoothie, tropical fruits flavour. Not as much protein as I'd like, but 10g is a great additive so I threw it in. And then I tasted it. And that's when I realized how much I had abandoned any desire or pleasure of the food I was taking in because it was the best smoothie I had ever had.
Every day that followed I actually craved the smoothie for the taste and not just the exercise fuel. Downing the huge amount became a treat and not a chore. And then the real test: I made my friend try it, minus the oats and flax seeds cuz I understand that's just weird. And she said it was the best smoothie SHE ever had too.
So thanks Vega, for allowing me to enjoy my smoothies and reminding me to appreciate food for more than just the fuel!
