It's that time of year, when we trek high and wide, cross country and continent to reunite with family and friends and celebrate the season. I have discovered that because I fly across the country to visit my family, I have to plan for the unexpected. Like 3 day weather delays. Or lost luggage that visits everyone else but me. So, for the 10 hour travel days I make sure I pack Vega bars, a glass jar with 2 scoops of Berry Vega that just needs water, an empty stainless steel water bottle and travel mug that I fill up once I'm through security and tons of raw nuts and snacks, fruit and veg, even a prepacked vegan lunch box; I learned from last year's debacle, I just may have to live off my stash for days while stuck in various airports. I also pack nutritional yeast, hemp seeds, raw dates, Maca and Chlorella, Spike, some EFA oil and other staples I'll need while I'm home but may not be able to find locally. I always pack training gear whether or not I can get in all the workouts I plan. If I don't, that means I've given up on even trying to stay on track. Sometimes spontaneous gatherings appear and I find myself on a long hike or meeting up with old friends to get outside and enjoy the winter weather so I always come prepared. It can be tempting to overindulge and devour every tasty vegan baked delight I find ( or create) but I know that I feel horrific after the celebrations end. So I try to stay as habitual as I can- same meals, same supplements, same sleep patterns and same activity level. After all, come January 1st, it's a whole new year and one I want to start on the right foot, which means, happy, healthy and nutritionally sound.
happy holidays and best of the new year to all!
