This is me and Joe during our first half marathon together last year. 3kms into the race, my IT band tightened and I knew I was done. Determined to finish, we managed to have a good time on the way and the photographers loved us. Technically, I didn't finish, cuz as you can see my foot never actually crossed the finish line!!
We've done 2 half marathons this year, and after the last one in May I was more than happy to hang up my runners for a month. Afterall, it's summer and there's way more fun things to do like golfing (or pitch and putt for me!), tennis, and trail biking. So a month ago, when Joe reminded me that we should already be in training, I groaned and said "already!?"
Since Joe only runs 1 marathon a year, we did the two half's this year together. To him it's a walk in the park, to me it's an actual race. Since he's training for a marathon, we signed up with a local running clinic so we can both run with our own groups. Hoping to get a personal best of under 2 hours (currently it's 2:04), I'm complimenting my training with spinning classes, bootcamp, and other various classes. In just one month my legs are starting to tighten, my upper body's getting toned, and if I keep this up i'll be able to reach my goal. Joe's goal is to qualify for the explicit Boston Marathon, so he requires a finishing time of 3:30 for his full marathon. Last year he tried to qualify while running the Royal Victoria marathon but finished at 3:43.. . his personal best, but not good enough for Boston. This year i'm confident he'll reach his goal.
And did I mention that Vega Sport ROCKS!?!?!?
