share. learn. thrive!

Yesterday I went for an hour and 45min run/walk (I took ten 30 second walking breaks and two 30 second pee breaks) and when I was finished, I walked for about 5 minutes as a cool down and stretched for a couple minutes before I got home and ate several handfuls of raw baby spinach(reduces inflammation) and pitted dates(provides instant carbs[energy.]) Before I finished swallowing my first handful of spinach though, my knees began to hurt. I know I'm only 19 and my knees shouldn't hurt after a run, but they did and they have before. I am pretty sure it's because I'm either not running with my Orthodox or because my foot isn't making contact with the ground "properly." Anyways, I ended up plugging the drain and turning on the bath. I made sure the water coming out was COLD before I went back to the kitchen to drink a half serving of Vega whole food health optimizer (reduces inflammation, provides a solid amount of protein and carbs as well %100 of your daily recommended intake of vitamins and minerals!) After chugging that, I then headed over the coach where I stacked up 4 pillows which I would use to elevate my legs until the bath was ready. Before getting into the bath, however, I turned on the kettle so that by the time I had been in the bath for 15 minutes, the kettle would be finished and I could make two cups of chamomile tea(inflammation reduction and sleep aid.) After the bath, I was so cold it was hard to even walk. I made the tea but never ended up drinking it because it was still too hot by the time I feel asleep for my midday-post-icebath-nap...

This morning I woke up and felt great, my legs actually feel pretty good considering I've never ran that far before, and my knees don't hurt at all. My quads are the only thing that feel tight and I have my lack of eagerness to stretch to blame for that soreness.

What is your post workout recovery like?

Thanks for the info! Maybe it is just because I'm still growing and my bones haven't fully developed yet...What is MSM? I'm thinking of taking arnica next time before a big run--what do you think?

I went for a 2 hour and 10 minute run yesterday, but took random walking breaks throughout which equated to 10 minutes of the duration. When I got home I did the same routine as I posted here, but this time, miraculously, MY KNEES DIDN'T HURT!

My knees used to hurt a lot, especially before my twenties (I'm 23 now). Certainly changing to a high raw vegan diet totally got rid of most of my aches and pains, though I'm sure some of my discomfort came as my body finished growing. However, when I'm doing my Suzuki training, which is very hard on the knees, I realized that I needed an extra boost. I've started taking MSM in my smoothies, which is great for joints. Though Ted, I wish I could have such a thorough recovery regime!
