It's not about being easy; it's about being epic - Rich and Jason's EPIC5 success

In February, Kelly wrote a blog post all about the plans of two vegan endurance athletes to take on a truly epic challenge - fueled by Vega!

Jason Lester and Vega ambassador Richard Roll wanted to complete 5 ironman distance triathlons in 5 consecutive days on 5 Hawaiian Islands. Most athletes might find it hard to imagine racing more than one Ironman per year – and a feat like this had never been attempted before. Many of you sent Rich and Jason some encouraging words as they prepared for this incredible journey – and that encouragement has been met with success!

It has now been already over a month since they have conquered the EPIC5 challenge. They have swam, rode and ran their way through 560 miles of cycling, 12 miles of swimming, and 131 miles of running.

In the end, their journey took seven days instead of the planned five, with two days going to working out logistics of inter-island travel and dealing with broken derailers and lost seat clamps. But these few obstacles along the way didn’t stop them or diminish their achievement. “Epic,” Lester reports, “It was a crazy journey. There were so many ups and downs. There were moments when we didn’t think we could go on. I think we tried to quit about 1,000 times. The human body truly is an amazing thing.”

They have done a truly outstanding job and have garnered a lot of media attention along the way. Check out the following links to name a few:

Best of all, these two have proved that truly epic endurance can be achieved on an entirely vegan diet. Rich and Jason are both completely vegan, and they were fueled by Vega throughout their races and training.

The proceeds from this event were used to raise funds for the Never Stop Foundation, which is dedicated to using athletics as a tool to encourage youth to achieve their full potential."Go outside of the box,'' Lester says."Let your imagination lead you. We're all amazing. We all have our own gifts to share."

Congratulate these extraordinary athletes on their accomplishment as they take some to rest and rehabilitate and, knowing them - prepare for their next adventure.
