Eat Healthy. Lose Weight. Be Happy.

I have been vegan for about 10 months now, but still over weight. It's the sweets! I eat too much and I eat too much sugar! Bottom line, I know what I am doing wrong. I even know what I should be doing, but I can't seem to do it. I have a treadclimber in my bedroom, but do I use it? NO! I want to start and maintain a daily regimen of exercising and win the sugar and over eating food war. Hopefully I can do it here with Vega's help.

Jicama Salad

With the Vancouver weather getting gray and cold, it seemed like a great opportunity to make something that reminded me of sunny Mexico. Jicama is a sweet root that looks a bit like a turnip but who's flavour has best been described as a cross between a potato and an apple. It isn't as starchy as a potato so works really well raw as you don't get that floury, gritty texture you do from raw potatoes.

Here's my recipe:…

Low, VERY low metabolism

A problem that is frustrating me.

Im 50 years old 103Kg and 19% body fat (measured by 3-pt skinfold and York eqn).

I train heavy with weights x3/wk and do aerobics -12/wk.

According to "scientific" equations I should be consuming over 3000cal to maintain weight.

My friends, who weigh slightly less, and train about the same, consume between 3500-4000cal/day.

My maintenance calories are extremely low and it was nearly impossible to lose weight.

I decided to… Continue

About to take the plunge...Any suggestions?

Hi!
I'm Jenny and have been been aware of Brendan for a little while and am now preparing to take the Vegan plunge.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me!
I do crossfit training about 5 days a week so I'm active but am nervous about how this drastic change in diet will affect my daily life. I just graduated a very stressful post-grad program and am trying to get as healthy as can be! (Being in really great shape is also key in my line of…

My RAW Journey

Having experimented with 100% RAW for two months two years ago, I am revisiting this lifestyle now that I have moved to North Vancouver. While not 100% at present, I'm about 90% RAW with the occasional lovely vegan curry to help with these soggy, dreary gray days.

I went to hear John Robbins speak at the Taste of Health Gala in Vancouver Saturday night. (Also, stopped by the Vega booth during the show - great samples!) For anyone who doesn't… Continue

The Barefoot Running Debate

Is bare better?

If you read magazines like Runners World, you might be inclined to think so. Barefoot running, or at least the idea of running with minimal support, has gained bucket-loads of media attention, with claims of better foot stability, and enhanced muscle development, this movement has inspired a die-hard following, and in practice, more and more…

Looking for Vegan Nutritional Advise for an Accidental Vegan Bodybuilder Boyfriend

This June 2010, I found myself having to suddenly "retire" because my job went to another state. I have a small pension, and consider myself lucky to have one. The last few months of work, found me "packing on the pounds" from stress. So, 4 months later, I find the best part of not having to work, is being able to go to the gym more often, and walk whenever the mood strikes and eat more mindfully and peacefully..thus I have lost 7 pounds… Continue

And it begins...

I've known about Vega for a couple of years and have purchased it before. Loved it. However, I bought both of Branden's Books, Thrive, and it changed EVERYTHING! I am a 310lb overweight, 38 yr old man who is really tired of being a 310lb, 38 yr old man. It really impressed me that Hugh Jackman supported Thrive. I am going vegan and using Thrive Vegan Nutrition as my guide for starting a whole new lifestyle. I'll keep you posted.

A Warm Apple Treat

It is the time of year when apples make their grand reappearance. While they are always readily available throughout the entire year, there is certainly an apple craze that occurs from September through December. Our taste buds become a bit more desperate for apple pies, apple strudels, apple crisp and apple custard but with desperate cravings comes growing waistlines and that is no good. So, how do we enjoy apple treats without apple chub? Here is a simple recipe that is low fat, gluten free,… Continue

CHANGE THE MESSAGE (Fitness is not about suffering and it's for everyone!)

As a Personal Trainer I see way too many people who watch "The Biggest Loser" or "The Last 10 Pounds" or "X-Weighted" and think that to be fit they have to go through so much pain and suffering. I am so tired of these irresponsible shows sending a message to an increasingly growing obese audience that to be fit means humiliation and ridiculous exercise routines (like pushing huge tires around or attaching a bosu ball to your leg and hauling it around). It's all…
