Confidence Boost

Zoom and Crop

First off, I am 100% decided that I will be racing Ironman Wisconsin on September 12. Training has been going exceptionally well and I can finally say that I would actually be nervous to race myself. I am ready and confident. I am so excited to get to that start line and fight for 1st place. I will have 16 weeks of uninterrupted hard, fast training in my legs (and arms…I haven’t forgotten about swimming).

I raced Timberman 70.3 this past…

Don't think... just do.

I have noticed that when I am in the zone I tend to have more success in what I do. For example when I was running yesterday I wasn't thinking about running at all, I was just focused on enjoying scenery and thinking about my life/goals. When I did this I noticed I ran a lot longer and harder than I would have normally because I wasn't thinking about how hard it was, how hard I was breathing etc... I just ran.

Top 10 Keys to Motivation

I often annotate life's journey by saying "KEEP RISING". It is an expression derived from one of my favorite motivational quotes:

"The path I choose is not soft grass. It is a mountainous path with unfathomable rocks and chasms. But it goes upwards, forward, each day affording to my soul awe inaspiring vistas and always ascending in degrees closer to an unutterable heaven" ~ Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

It applies on all levels - Body, Mind, Heart and Soul - as we… Continue

Racing update - August 2010

Racing update - after moving to the flatlands in Edmonton and starting full time work in a physical job 3 months ago I figured I'd be ready for an early racing retirement. Well, maybe not yet! Last week I went over to BC for a quick trip and convincingly won the SRAM sponsored Crankworx Toonie mtb race in Whistler and then whipped back in time for XTerra Alberta in Canmore which I won by over 10 minutes!

Enlightened Eating

If by enlightened we mean "fully conscious", then check out the discussion thread "Ultra-Food Challenge" and share your journey toward enlightened eating. So I suppose this isn't so much a blog entry as an invitation. Hope to learn from your experiences and skills.

Failing vegan 101 ??

How hard could it be to transition to vegan I thought to myself? After stumbling across a grocery list that was eerily similar to mine and following the links, I became intrigued. So intrigued that I signed up for 'Thrive in 30'. So intrigued, that after lesson 3, I bought the book 'Thrive Diet'. No one. I mean no one I know personally, eats the way I do. My family isn't sure what tree I swung out of - but they claim it isn't theirs... but that's another blog.... or therapy… Continue

Shake & Go Smoothie

It always amazes me when people mix their protein powder with water, as if that's supposed to be an appetizing thing. Like guys at the gym will drop 2 scoops of whey protein in their water container, mix it up, and guzzle it down with the same pained expression they used when squatting 300 pounds. Having protein powder with water is what I imagine the inside of a dirty aquarium tastes like. Gross. Which is why I always mix my powders in my smoothies, with bananas and berries and everything else… Continue

Going to the gym..

Today I went to the gym. I've been...here or there...every few weeks....and I've been half-assing it. WOrking out for 20 minutes, barely putting any effort in. Just being all around lazy. Well today marks the first day I change this tired routine. Went to a class! Exercise is different for everyone, but at least for me, I HAVE to go to classes. It's the only way I'll exercise for a reasonable amount of time, and put a reasonable amount of effort into it. And you know what? Today was actually…
