Vandals Rugby powered by Vega!

This Thursday I'll be making the drive from my home in Methuen, Massachusetts to Saranac Lake, New York to participate in the Can-Am Rugby tournament with the Vandals Rugby Club. The Vandals, out of Los Angeles, are an eclectic bunch of rugby players from all over North America and beyond, known for their enthusiastic rugby style, collective sense of humor, and storytelling abilities. (Over the past several years, I have played for the Vandals in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Scottsdale Arizona,…

Today, I ran for...

...4 minutes!!!!

I'm over the moon right now and I just had to share my excitement. After a long (long!) bout of not being able to do any physical activity, my surgeon gave me the green light to exercise again. I am SOOOO happy.

When I say that I couldn't do any physical activity, I mean nothing. No lifting over 10 pounds (that's a grocery bag!), walk for maximum of 5-10 minutes (that…

Green Melon Smoothie

I received a honeydew melon in my CSA box the other day and decided to "smoothie it". This is naturally sweet and super healthy. Perfect for breakfast on a sunny summer morning or as a recovery drink after a hot workout! I'll give you… Continue

I have been pigging out the last couple of days on everything sweet in the house. After going to Whole Foods this past week, I had picked up some organic gummy worms (yes, I'm 33 and eating gummy worms, I was feeling nostalgic) made out of tapioca - they tasted exactly like the regular ones- loved them but at 280 calories a bag- it's alot of sugar. I have to remember that just because it's organic doesn't mean it's good FOR YOU.

I could tell already that it's providing a bad environment…

The Smoothie Equation

When I heard about this month's Thrive Challenge, I felt suddenly very indecisive. You see, I love smoothies and drink at least one everyday, but they're usually each a little different (unless I find myself with hordes of fruit from a friend's tree--ha!). So instead of giving just one recipe, I thought I'd write a post on how to build an awesome smoothie, totally customizable by component:

  1. The Liquid: Smoothies can be made with honestly any liquid you want.…

My Current Favorite Smoothie

Since my garden is out of control with kale and collards, I put together this smoothie for the kids (and me!) with banana to keep their potassium up and also added coconut oil which is great support for the thyroid and metabolism.

"Mmmmmm" Smoothie

2 -3 bananas

2 large kale leaves and stalks or 2-3 collard greens

2 C coconut water

1 C OJ or any mix of organic juice - my favorite in this is Orange/Strawberry/Banana

1 scoop Sun Warrior…

Road time meals

I'm a traveling sales rep looking for ways to stay health on the road and not break the scale. When you struggle with the heat driving in South Texas and Southern Louisiana, snacks seem to be only help keep your drive. Besides a cooler full of water and Vega Sport, has anyone found a great way to keep moving?

My Vega Smoothie

I have a standard smoothie that I make every morning for my breakfast, or on my days that I go out for a long run. On work days I make this and take it with me in a blend and go cup like some people would their morning coffee. I'd much rather start my day with this than a coffee!

The Blend & Go Smoothie.

1/2 banana

1 - 1 1/2 cups of Almond Milk (make your own it's even tastier!)

1 serving of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer Natural flavour.

1 heaping tsp of… Continue

No Bake Brownies

The brownie universe isn’t exactly full of surprises. The combination of sugar, butter, flour, chocolate, eggs, a few extraneous ingredients, plus a little oven time, inevitably leads to some form of brownie action. Of course, the resulting degree of deliciousness is all in the details — just talk to the adamant nut-adders, the chocolate chip enthusiasts, or the “fudgy” versus “cakey” people that can seemingly never agree. Yet, by and… Continue

Fueling up for a day long rugby tournament with the Vandals Rugby Club

I was faced with a sporting challenge last weekend when my rugby club, the Vandals, entered a side in the 32nd New England Ten’s rugby tournament in Acton, Massachusetts. The weather was very hot and humid and we were expected to play several games in one day with the quality of the opposition increasing as the day went on. The park where the tournament was being played was far from town, and the concession stand featured things like hot dogs and hamburgers, not exactly vegan fare!

I… Continue
