Eagleman 70.3 Race Report

It is always nice to say that a race went better than expected. I can honestly say that I did not want to race yesterday. Between my wedding and the last minute move across country, my mind and body were out of it. I didn’t have one ounce of race day excitement and dreaded the starting line. All I can think was that I haven’t legitimately swam for about 2 weeks and my bike training has been all over the place. I have been training on the bike though it has been far from my normal routine so… Continue

My Vegetarian Journey

It's been 2 months since I became fully vegetarian. I went through a lightheaded phase which I still go through once in a while (first thing in the morning or when i lower my head), but it's definitely subsided to a manageable state.

Since i'm determined to get the lightheadedness under control, i've been adding a variety of foods in my diet. People think since you're vegetarian there's not alot of food choices but it's just the… Continue

"How I went Pro" - food for thought.

For me and for most people going pro isn't as easy as winning races or scoring high. I've tried that for a while and even though it is needed, in smaller sports it's just not enough! I am a "pro" or full time Speedboarder and distance longboarder. I have the world record for the longest distance skated in 24 hours (on an injured leg to boot) and I have been winning nearly every distance race on longboards that I attend. However in the highly competitive and under funded sport of… Continue

Summer at Sequel Naturals

Throughout the year, Sequel’s social events tie to the our clean and green ethos, along with a little fun and games. The summer months are when the green thumbs come out for our annual Sequel Gardening Showdown. All season long, we host a series of monthly staff BBQs on Friday evenings. The highlight of these BBQs is the judging for our showdown. Employees are separated into small teams and given a 4’x8’ planter to grow veggies and fruits… Continue

"The China Study" The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted

My regular doctor told me about a book, called "The China Study". Today I picked up a copy.

The first four pages have 16 quotes of praise from leaders in medicine, research, nutrition and health.

One of my favorites, "The China Study is a well-documented analysis of the fallacies of the modern diet, lifestyle and medicine and the quick fix approach that often fails. The lessons from China provide compelling rationale for a plant-based diet to promote health and reduce the… Continue

Feeling "Stable" and Enjoying The Run...

To be perfectly honest, I am both empowered and intimidated by the very high caliber of athleticism that is evident amongst the members of Vega Community. However, the inspiration and empowerment far outweighs any insecurity over my own sporadic athletic endeavors. I have been about four full weeks into adopting a healthier "organic whole foods" oriented lifestyle and I Feel Great!. I truly do - however, it is difficult to accurately describe what it is I actually feel. The word that… Continue

Gearing up for my first race in three years

On July 26th I’ll run the San Fransisco Marathon.

That last time I raced was May of 2006. It was the Canadian 50km Championships in Toronto. I won, but haven’t raced since. Not because I haven’t wanted to but because the demands of touring ramped up and have been near-relentless ever since.

However, over the last three years I’ve run consistently, averaging about five runs per week. But I’ve done it for a different reason. I haven’t been concerned with pushing the… Continue

My Vegan Journey June 24

How has a whole month nearly gone by since I first found my way here? I have to say it's been a pretty easy month as far as my eating habits are concerned. I've tried lots of new recipes, improved on my vegetable lasagna, found some new foods like Portabello burgers and successfully faced and won some challenges.

I was concerned about how I would tell my family and friends that I was no longer eating meat but they have all been surprisingly supportive and unquestioning. I've been out… Continue

The Universe has got me on a training program...

I've just come out of two back-to-back horse shows over the last two weeks, and have been left with a lot to contemplate. The first show was very small and laid back, and I had planned to move up a height level and get some "miles" before the second, larger show. What's that saying? "When people make plans, God laughs". Oh ya.

My horse took offense to one of the jumps, and every time we entered the ring, he decided to rear and spin, rather than begin the course. When we'd approach… Continue

A Big Thank You to Vega Community

I am a forty something married male residing on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Life is good and I can honestly say that I’m healthy and happy, but the weight has slowly crept up on me to the point where I can now notice the impact it has.

I am not sedentary, in fact my wife and I are very active - mountain hiking, cycling, boating and adventure travelling on a regular basis. We also eat a healthy and balanced diet, albiet my portions are likely way too big and it is not a… Continue

My Vegan Journey June 12

After 12 days of switching high fibre fruits, veggies and grain etc for meat, fish, seafood (which I now refer to as flesh) I'm feeling quite confident that I have made a change that is going to stay with me for life. I've had fleeting moments that I wonder if I'm missing a good steak or particularly salmon sashimi but it passes very quickly and I feel very content with my new food choices. For one thing I'm never hungry, actually I'm almost always full and when I do get that hunger feeling it… Continue
