Share Community Events for Earth Day

Searching the internet for Earth Day ideas to share on our social networks lead us to our very own Hawaii State Calendar. This is awesome. We found not only Earth Day events, but also state and island events as well.

You can share your own state and community events on your social networks and maybe even host a table at one of the events for family, friends, etc...bring some of your snacks, food, drinks, complete with recipes, even your own flyers complete with resources to links,… Continue

Ask Brendan: Alcohol and the Thrive Diet

A glass of wine. A pint of beer. Can you have the occasional cocktail and remain on track with your Thrive lifestyle?

Today, a question from Tim:

Q: Where do you sit regarding beer and wine (both red and white)? Are these substances alkaline or acid-forming? Is there a place…

Baby steps and big rewards!

So tonight i made my first batch of Almond flax burgers and added my own twist due to lack of ingredients! I was so pleasently suprised! I was a little nervous how they would turn out, especially when i realised i didn't have a few things and as was also trying to impress my mother who had come over for dinner and it worked!

She loved them!

I've only really started with Thrive about 2 weeks ago and have been doing a gradual introduction with the WFHO smoothies and a big…

The weather is so fantastic...a balmy 20C :) (when winter is 6 months long a guy gets pretty excited at 20). I spent the aft doing yard work and diggng my vegetable garden....I got a little bit of a sun burn...An April sun burn in Alberta is usually skihill related! I start pepper and tomato plants indoors in pots in Febuary so they spent the day out on the…

Superfrog Race Report!

This past weekend Chuckie and I drove down to Coronado, CA for the SuperFrog /SuperSeal races. I did the half-Ironman, the Frog.

First things first…what a GREAT event this is! I'm not just saying that because I was victorious but

because it is! So many things made this a fun event but one of the main

things that stuck out after the… Continue

H.I.T

So, I've been doing more High Intensity Training--in groups. Its kickass. I always thought I pushed myself hard, but the group environment really helps me push up.

My Old style of training was sort of bodybuilding workouts and higher intensity cardio on off days.

Lately, I've been combing Olympic lifts and powerlifting lifts with high intensity cardio and other full body movements. Overall, I think this is making me a much better athlete.

Here are a couple… Continue

Mmm.... Delicious Banana Bread Energy Bars

The cinnamon and nutmeg taste combined with banana is oh so good. What a great alternative to traditional banana bread - these bars keep the taste but use nutrient-packed ingredients instead of high-fructose corn syrup, white sugar and hydrogenated oils.

I'm Awake

It’s 7.30 and i’m awake! I don’t just mean that i’m up and about, my brain is actually functioning and my body too.

I do feel quite achey, like i’ve been exercising but not overly stiff.

Yesterday was quite exciting - It was my first fully Raw day. It was difficult. I don’t mean eating the raw food, which is delicious, or even sticking to the diet. So why? Well two things really. I hadn’t intended to go Raw so soon. The plan was to ease into it, learning the new skills, and… Continue

Child Athletes

My sons race BMX. which involves short bursts of energy, however during a training clinic they can be active for up to 6-8 hrs at a time. We have incorporated Vega Sport into our dailing regime with morning smoothies for the kids and myself. I have recently picked up the bars to see if they would sustain them longer than a cliff bar, but i am not willing to ask my children to become vegan. Can incorporating Vega products into a traditionally healthy well balanced diet with a large reliance on… Continue

Advice on what to eat when for active lifestyle

I have just started the Thrive in 30 Challenge and have been on it for about a week now, slowly reading the Thrive Diet book, searching this site and using the 'Lessons' from the challenge.

But i need some help. I know that there are different types of foods you should be eating depending on when you train etc etc, but i'm just confused as how to put it all together in my life.

I'm a Wildlife Officer, am up at 5:30am and out feeding, cleaning and caring for…

My Olympic Moment

Today is the first time that I have had a chance to go get on my computer and catch up with friends, family, sponsors and fans that have supported me through my journey. And what a journey it has been.

I did not expect this outcome for the Games, but I did expect that I would go for it and tap into some of my potential and ability as an athlete. I accomplished so many goals that I set out to do, and I can

walk away proud of that. I pushed myself beyond what I…

Microwaves Make Me Itchy.

This is a shorter post, but it is something I have often thought about, and discussed in the past. I wanted to share it with you, and perhaps start a discussion around it.

I do have strong opinions about diet and nutrition, and often discuss this with my patients. Microwaves fall in my 'absolutely not' category. [So does most dairy, over-processed…

April challenge *_*

Hi!

what I do to improve the environment? easy:

1- eat over 80% fresh raw local food as it is (processed with a knife at the most ;p). Saves energy and tons of unnecessary wrapping

2- only use grade A appliances and eco-friendly light bulbs

3- keep the heating on only during the day with the thermostat set as low as I can bare (currently 18ºC)

4- compost all organic residue and make sure everything else that enters the house is BOTH reusable and then… Continue
