Converted

Wow. What can I say? Thrive in 30 helped launch me into my journey of a plant-based diet. For me, I knew I wanted to make a change, but I didn't know where to begin. I did know that laying the foundation properly is key to being successful and the educational emails as well as lesson re-caps have given me a working knowledge and a great base. Is it bad for me to reveal that I once held a sarcastic view of vegetarians? I now of course have learned how positively life changing and…

Adventure Race Nutrition

So I did my first adventure race as a Thrive Nutrition Vegan-ite...After about 6 hours, I had to fall back to some commercial gels as the energy bites I made and the gel just wasn't doing it. I wore a HRM and was testing how many calories per hour I was burning out there snowshoeing, skiing and running through deep snow. It was close to 600 kcal/hour. I was just burning too much to eat only dates and coconut oil. I'm not disappointed though. After 9.25 hours of racing in the mountains and… Continue

The Tipping Point

Have we reached the tipping point in the grassroots effort of conveying the medical miracles of plant-based nutrition to the world? I spent two and a half days with Dr. T. Colin Campbell (here I am with him and his beautiful and inspiring wife, Karen), my Guru whom I lovingly and with conviction have named "The Father of Modern… Continue

A Blast from the Past

For me, the quest to optimal health and performance began at age 18

after I received my first (free) tub of Vega WFHO from my aunt who did

not care for the berry-flavoured tub. At the time, I was always low on

energy and eating just like "everyone else." A lot of junk food, GMO's,

tons of wheat, meat, everything non-organic, etc etc. I had just gotten

into triathlons at the time I received my treasured Vega, and having

seen Brendans info on the side of the tub I… Continue

Ah-Hah!

It all started with a Whole Foods Optimizer in chocolate flavour. I went to Planet Organic looking for something I could take on a road trip for breakfasts that were gluten and lactose free. An employee suggested I take the Whole Foods Optimizer for several reasons: it was gluten and lactose free, it was easy to shake with some almond milk and it was on sale. So, I bought it having never tried the Vega brand before. On the first day of my road trip I shook one cup of Almond Milk with one scoop… Continue

Coming back all the way

I have always been an athlete. From the time I was playing teeball and peewee hockey with the boys, till I was swimming for state high school records, I had to compete. This love for competition and all things athletic continued into my 20's when I took up running and paddling marathon distances and also turned strict vegetarian. Marathons were challenges that pushed my endurance limits and kept me training and thus, happy. I was winning many canoeing races and finishing strong in my…

Fighting for Fat-ism

Yesterday morning, as I was peddling away on the seated elliptical, reading Dr. David Kessler's The End of Overeating, I looked up at the muted television screen right above me and saw a headline on one of the morning shows. It said "How to find a doctor who is not fat-phobic". It was impossible not to simply see the irony of my current location and the…

The Greatness of Greens

If I were stuck on an island that was beautiful and peaceful; filled with my friends and family; abundant with new books to read, movies to watch, beaches for walking and playing; but I had to choose only one type of food that would sustain and nourish me for a long healthy life of relaxation and bliss, what would I choose? That's right! Of course, it is the only… Continue
