Vegetarian

Testing, testing??  Hello, Vega.  This is a repost from my blog, PermacultureGrin.

...

Whenever I’m forced to say I’m vegetarian, usually in some public place where eating is happening, I’m always asked, “Why?” by someone earnestly curious, while silence blooms around us to eavesdrop. I flounder to answer this question every time. Is it that I don’t believe in cruelty to animals? Do I believe I’ll have…

First timer

Hey All,

I have been reading a lil about the vega community, Brendan and the products so I just made my first purchase of Optimal Health powder (In Vanilla), along with the Thrive book and some smoothies to go. I am hoping my whole family will soon be healthier because of this choice of plant based nutrition. Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

Peace~

Bean Burgers

I tried a new recipe last night called Bean Burgers, quite a tasty meal but they are kinda sloppy...Just like the walnut hemp burgers!  These consist of an onion sauteed soft and then cooked with finely chopped mushrooms (about a cup and a half or so)- seasoned and set aside once all the liquid has been cooked out.  Mash a tin of your favorite beans in a bowl and combine with mushroom mixture, form into 4 patties and dust with flour (not wheat) and broil 4 mins on each side....they were…

Women, Food and God, by Geneen Roth- My Many Realizations from this book

"Your relationship to food is an unexpected path to almost everything. It is a doorway, not a wall, an opening, not a closing. All that you believe about love, change, joy and possibility is revealed in how, when and what you eat. The world is on your plate." - Geneen…

Coming Out Vegan

The first time I told my husband I wanted to do try the vegan thing, he was pretty skeptical.  He loves pizza, and cheese, and meat.  But, he understood that I was trying to be healthy.  I had just gotten back my first ever annual blood test that my work offers which showed that I had high cholesterol.  This was pretty surprising to me since I'm only in my mid-20s, I run regularly, and I thought I ate healthy at the time.

At first, I was skeptical about eating vegan for…

A Time of Reflection

Some experiences change you from the inside out, without it even being a conscious act. That is how I feel right now, as if I have undergone a complete overhaul as a person and I am not entirely sure when my old self died and the new emerged. I used to look at my mother, sister, grandma and wonder how they managed to be so strong while carrying heavy burdens on their shoulders. I waited for the strength to be delivered to me like some rite… Continue

Never take health for granted...

This is my very first blog, my very first post, my very first cry out to the unknown world for an unbiased listening ear. I know in all likelihood no one will even read it but for some reason I have the urge to take my feelings out of my private journal and broadcast it to the world. Well, the vega world at least. I am hoping someone else out there has been going through the same challenges and can reassure me of… Continue

Coming out Vegan

Well I did it...I came out Vegan!!  My immediate family has know for a while that I've been dabbling in Veganism and they don't care for the most part. I've always been the health and fitness freak, so I guess this came as no surprise to them.  In fact my Mom and Dad are following suit which is Awesome.  My story is about the other day (2 days ago), I was at lunch meeting with about 15 other business people, we went to grab lunch from the prepared buffet when I noticed that not One thing on the… Continue

Coming out Vegan

When I went vegan my family thought I was crazy.  They are Southern and eat a lot of meat.  I mean pretty much meat at least two times a day, if not three.  Growing up, I was never a big fan of meat, so there was no love lost.  I just came out and said, "I am vegan.  I do it for the animals, the environment, and for my health."  When I was pregnant with my first son, I was told he would be born small, and weak by family members.  He was born at 39 1/2 weeks and weighed 8lbs 15oz.  I was also…
