Hey Dominic, Regarding your cleanse statement (or question?) I'm somewhat opposed to cleanses. I think your diet and lifestyle should be a cleanse in itself...so, slowly changing your diet to more…

I think it depends what your workout is, the intensity, and duration. Also, everyone is a bit different with respect to preworkout nutrition...so generalized statements dont' apply to everyon. Perso…

What's up with Tempeh?

Hey Joshua, I'll try to address your questions. Firstly, I think its excluded from the thrive diet because its derived from soy. Many people have soy and gluten allergies and I think Brendan wanted…

I think you should eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Don't just mindlessly graze/snack, put a little thought/effort into it and you'll eat healthy...It just takes a bit of forethought:) Eating small meals will help keep your blood sugar level…

I love the green smoothie and salad ideas...along the same lines, I always tell people to think of eating MORE good food, (rather than focusing on less bad food). For example, if you implement a new rule that you have to have one giant salad (as me…

How did you discover Vega?
I was in a health food store, and the guy working there was a raw foodist. He recommended it to me. I bought his book and brought home a jug of berry flavored vega. I drink and I was hooked!
Tell us a little more about yourself
Hey everyone, my name is Sam. I've been vegan for just over 3 years now! I'm a personal trainer and soon to be physiotherapist (got the degree just have to pass my upcoming licensing exam)

I've always been passionate about health and fitness. As a vegan athlete who is always on the go, Vega has been a great addition to my diet! I do all sorts of activities. I'm mostly involved with running and weightlifting. I also love rock climbing, playing soccer, and racquet sports.

Recently, I've begun taking breakdancing and Acro Lessons. I'm starting to be able to walk and my hands, and can almost do handstand pushups (not against a wall)

Family Day Workout

If you're not a resident of Ontario, you're wondering what family day. Well, its our newest holiday, celebrated in February (despite the fact we don't yet have a long weekend in June!!)...anyways,

I'm ramping up my workouts to get in shape for a fashion show I'm doing pretty soon. I've geared my workouts to be a bit more tailored to fitness/fat burning, rather than hypertrophy. I think long, low intensity cardio is pretty useless for people who are in relatively good shape. So, when I'm… Continue

How's Your Posture?

A friend of mine who is a dance instructor (and owner of a dance studio) has recently been struck with back pain with accompany muscle soreness. Anyone who is a dancer can probably relate to this. Although it'd be easy to blame her dancing on her pain there are many components that can contribute to back pain.

In order to discover the origin of her back pain, we looked at many things including her footwear, or core strength during activities, her diet, and other activities of daily living. This… Continue

Post Workout Nutrition

So, it seems that a lot of people have different strategies for post workout nutrition. In my opinion, after a really intense day of weights or hard cardio, getting some easily digestible calories in me right away (shake) followed by a meal is key.

So, what I typically do, is take in 80 grams of simple sugars right away. This is usually waxy maize or glycocarb. About half hour later (when I've showered and gone home). I'll make a vega smoothie (either smoothie infusion, or the whole food health… Continue

Hey Sam,
Finally got a chance to give it a try today (well, partially). Made a few adaptations - for example I don't have the proper set-up for the glute/ham raises, but I think even if I did I'm not sure I'm strong enough to do them. Lol. And I'm guessing for the seated row sprint/rest exercise you meant cable row, but I decided to do it on the rowing machine. And that's where I stopped today because I ran out of time. I'm looking forward to completing the whole workout on Friday. Definitely got a good sweat on with just the exercises I did get done.
Thanks!
