I'm a 43 year old African American male triathlete (past 6 years) 5'8" 140 lbs; freelance consultant. I'm interested in the raw vegan lifestyle for overall health and support of my triathlon performance. My interest and buy-in are immediate, but my concern is how to manage my cravings. After a life long conditioning of the standard American diet, I am actually quite afraid that I might not be able to handle the withdrawal of living without meat, fried and processed foods, sugar and caffeine -- especially sugar and meat. Those will be the tough ones. When I've tried in the past, I felt that I just couldn't gain enough sustainable energy for mental and physical functioning without meat, especially being a triathlete and having a job that requires intellectual heavy lifting. I hope to find answers to this within the Vega community.
