I have been using Vega Sports Optimizer for my sports drink during my long runs but it is fairly low in sodium.  I am wondering what everyone suggests for sodium/electrolytes especially when it is ho…

I am very interested in trying Maca, it sounds wonderful  However, I understand that it helps "maintain a healthy hormone balance".  Sounds great in theory however I was diagnosed with hormone positi…

Hi Kim, I like to eat ensure I eat salt before my long runs, but normally (unless you're out there for >2.5 hours or so) you won't need too much more salt. if you're worried about it, add a 1/2 tsp or so to your vega bottle.

I have been using Vega Sports Optimizer for my sports drink during my long runs but it is fairly low in sodium.  I am wondering what everyone suggests for sodium/electrolytes especially when it is hot and humid.  Any thoughts?  What does Brenden rec…

Thanks for Clearing that up Adam. I think that Brendan would also agree that consuming your vitamins, minerals and nutrients in the form of whole, natural, raw food would be best, but I think a large part of the idea behind vega is the convenience f…

Hey Jedidiah, I believe that Brendan is doing great things and I think he is tremendously inspiring. I think that the vega products are a vast improvement on mainstream sports supplemental products, and am glad that there is a vegan alternative on…

Adam, Some of what you say here sounds good and relatively convincing, but, some of it also conflicts and counteracts Brendan's teaching. Are you suggesting he is wrong about Maca and a few other things? I mean, he puts Maca directly into the Vega W…

Maca is an adaptogen, it helps your body balance out hormones. I can't find any literature that indicates a contraindication with Tamoxifen. Where ever you live, seek out either an osteopathic M.D. or a naturopath for an informed opinion on what to…

Wow, lots of information from everyone! Thanks to Adam for the references to the doctors. I will be reading and researching up a storm now. Funny enough, part of my horoscope today said, "Do not hesitate to conduct your own investigation. Ask the ri…

Emma Maca, like Rhodiola and Astragalus, treat the symptoms do not address the cause. Symptoms are the bodys way of 1) trying to heal itself and 2) to communicate to us that we are doing something that is not conducive to its overall health and wel…

With your concern about hormones, it's also worth getting advice regarding soy products and knowing what other foods and chemicals mimic estrogens (ie. DON'T re-use those disposable plastic water bottles)

I agree with Jay. To classify maca as a mask of fatigued adrenal glands is incorrect. Look at all the work by David Wolfe on maca and you'll understand why it's classified as a superfood. I could talk all about it and give you details but the only w…

Firstly don't subscribe to misinformed propaganda! Macca does not chemically alter your endocrine system. Macca is a vegitable root classed as an adaptogen, it simply provides a quality array of vitamins and minerals that offer help to restore endoc…

Oh boy! Now I'm really confused. I bought MacaSure with the hopes of it being a positive thing... Now I'm not sure!! Adam, perhaps you have some sources to refer us to for more information? In The Thrive Diet, Brendan explains the positive benefits…

I thought is was okay to take macca for three weeks and then one week off? What about Rhodiola for short term assistance? Astragalus? Eating a lot of fruit can feed and help candida flourish?

Hey Kim I would not try maca. Hormone balance is something achieved through healthy living. If we live healthfully, in accordance with the true needs of our physiology, then we will achieve a state of homeostasis. Products like maca get a lot of hy…

The problem with many of the Clif gels is that they have up to 100 mg of caffeine.

How did you discover Vega?
First read about it through the Kind Life then saw more ads in Vegetarian Times. Then I looked for the booth at the ING Miami Marathon and spoke with Robert Cheeke.
Tell us a little more about yourself
I have been a semi-vegetarian/pescetarian since I was 14 years old (24 years). Going vegan now and loving it. I have been running since 2006 and have completed 9 marathons. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 37 years old on 11/26/08 at 12:33pm - finished my 8th marathon 24 hours after hearing the words..."you have cancer"! Tough and emotional race but I finished. After a year of surgeries, chemo and radiation I am ready to run more marathons and move on with my life. On January 31, 2010 I ran the ING Miami Marathon, my first marathon after breast cancer treatment.
