Higher intakes of protein and energy are advocated for growth in the adolescent population, by the Institute of Medicine. Most micronutrient recommendations for adults are the same; however, exceptions are made for specific minerals needed for bone growth, repair, and maintenance (e.g. calcium, magnesium, phosphorous).
