How did you discover Vega?
Through the Body For Life.com Vegitarian thread. I was looking for a full meal replacement and was directed this way.
Tell us a little more about yourself
I'm 53, a meat eater all of my life. Why the switch well in January I started a fitness program to get in the best shape I possibly could. The reason I started as I was not happy with the way I felt and knew something had to be done. Also my family and I joined a gym and I hired a trainer for my wife as she has several health issues. I started the Body For Life Challenge and met alot of wonderfull and supportive people. On this program I ate meat portion size the size of my palm and carbs the size of my fist and as much veggies as I wanted. I also quit Butter and Salt. I lost 20.5 lbs. I love the BFL Workouts as they challenge me. I was looking into barefoot running as I watched a show hosted by William Shatner, I think it was called the wierd and the wonderfull. he had a piece on these tribes in mexico that would run barefoot for 60 to 80 miles a day. So scientist strated looking at why they were able to do this at any age and as it turns out their diet is mainly vegan. When they examined running barefoot it turns out that when you run with shoes your heel hits the ground first and the running shoe absorbs the impact thus causing your foot muscles not to perform as the should and they get weaker. When running barefoot the front to mid portion of the foot hits the ground first and the foot muscles do what nature has intended and the strengthen. So as I was checking this out there was a peice on a runner that followed the Dr. McDougall Diet and has been following this for the last 20 or so yrs. So I bought the books one of them is for maximum weight loss. So no oils no dairy and no pasta or any processed foods. The recipes are more tex mex and my daughter isn't too keen on them. Looking for a vegan diet I can live with that will satisfy. All input is welcome.
