I have always been an athlete. From the time I was playing teeball and peewee hockey with the boys, till I was swimming for state high school records, I had to compete. This love for competition and all things athletic continued into my 20's when I took up running and paddling marathon distances and also turned strict vegetarian. How's the knee?
Sorry to hear about your knee. I tore the ACL and lateral menisci in my right knee while playing squash 4 years ago.
I contemplated surgery too but at that time the procedures weren't as advanced as they are now so I decided to let the knee heal on its own with lots of rest and recovery. The good news is that after about 12 weeks of intensive physiotherapy I was back at the gym. The doctors told me that said my hamstrings will always have to be stronger than my quads and that's what I have worked on. I have pretty much tried every form of physical activity from yoga to rock climbing over the last 4 years and with the grace of god, I am fine!
However, the 2 sports that should be avoided are Skiing and skating (which isn’t a problem for me as I live in the Middle East but I know it will be for you).
10 years ago, an ACL tear was a career ending injury, now however, it is almost a common sporting injury that can be fixed with a minor surgery, so even if you decide to get it done be assured that you’ll be on the slope again by the time its winter
All the best!
