Your challenge this month: The new year is a great opportunity for a fresh start. Rather than broad resolutions, smaller, more manageable changes are the best way to create lasting results. Since the community is place to share and learn from others, the focus of this month’s challenge is to share your goals for 2010.

How to participate: Share your 2010 goal. What steps do you need to take to achieve your goal? How do you plan to overcome obstacles? To participate, just post your answer in a comment below or write a blog post.

Prize: A month of fresh starts! Win a month-long supply of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer; two tubs, your choice of flavor. Approximate retail value $150.

Contest closes: Entries must be received by January 31, 2009 at 11:59 PST.

Winner: Congratulations to Brandon! His 2010 goal to run a 100 mile road race in Northeastern Ohio was this month’s winning entry.

I'm so excited for 2010 because I have big plans! I feel like I'm in a place in my life where Im coming into my own and I now feel more strongly than ever that I need to share my passions and knowledge with the world. My goals for this year include quitting my 9 to 5 and going full force with my blog (www.chicagonow.com/breath), health/fitness writing and passion for social media.
I want to inspire others to not be intimidated by fitness, healthy eating and a truly fulfilling life. I know that in order to push myself in my career I need to ensure that I am performing at my physical and mental peak, so that means I will continue to practice yoga and eat a healthy vegan, high-raw diet, supplemented by LOTS of Vega products! ;) I also applied to be a Vega Ambassador so I'm crossing my fingers that becomes a reality so I can truly spread the word about Vega goodness. Winning a year supply of the Whole Food Health Optimizer would truly be amazing!

2010 has several goals, first of all, go sub 2 hours in a half marathon, my first half was in august 09 and I completed it in 2:19. The halfmarathon i am running is April 24. Secondly I will be running a 50km ultra marathon at the end of May. I have never even come close to running this distance but my training plan that is taking me through the winter will help me build my mileage and strength to achieve this goal. My goal time is 6 hours. My final running goal is to run leg 2 of the Canadian Death Race; 27 km with 5000' of elevation change; the time goal for this is 5 hours.

I am also working on improving my education by completing several more courses towards my B.Comm; this has been a long schooling process that started in 1994; it is time to finish it.

Finally by the time I run the death race which is around 30 weeks away I want to weigh less than 200 lbs, and even more ideal would be less than 190. I am currently around 218.

2009 was a big year of changes for me career, personal and health wise. 2010 will be a year of achieving some of the big goals I set for myself last year, such as running a marathon (my first!). I successfully ran three half's in '09 and now I feel I'm ready to step it up! I'm also continuing my education to pursue a new career in the health field - this after leaving a 17-year career in advertising. I also started to volunteer more through my church and at my children's school. It's feels great to do something good that benefits others.

I'm excited about all the new and great things to come in 2010!!

In addition to the triathlons I would like to do this year (after a 3 year layoff), I will do a race in each sport. I am doing the Pat Tillman run (4.2 miles) in April, a bike Time Trial (not sure which yet) and a swimming race (either a meet or open water swim, have not decided yet).

Secondly -- want to determine my true "race weight." At 6'1", medium build, I am thinking it will be around 170 or so...

Happy New Year!

I have a couple of goals for 2010.

This first is to compete in a duathlon (run/bike/run). I've wanted to do this for a couple of years now, but just never did it. I got a new bike last year and recently got a bike trainer so I can bike indoors during this cold winter weather.

My second goal is to run a 50 miler. I'm turning 40 this year and I thought running a 50 miler would be a great way to celebrate it. This too will be a challenge for me because the farthest I've ever run is 13.1 miles. To complete this goal I'm going to look to my fellow runners who have already done a 50 miler.

I look forward to 2010 and being in better shape than I've been in a long time!!

Happy New Year everyone!! : )

My goals for 2010 include waking up earlier, going to bed later, ridding myself of back acne, and placing exceptionally well in my triathlons next season.

Any obstacles will be overcome by sheer determination and persistence as I must achieve these goals to lay a solid foundation for my future...

Speaking of two tubs of vega, I actually convinced a man today in Planet Organica to purchase a second tub of vega W.F.H.O after telling him about how good the chai flavor was haha.

My resolution is based on the 5 steps to better health (http://www.vegacommunity.com/profiles/blogs/five-simple-steps-to-he...). I've adopted most of these into my routine although I would admit I don't always get my salad a day. So i will eat one a day and as a side resolution focus on drinking more water. All the best in 2010

New Years is always a great time for me to set resolutions for the upcoming year, and every year I try to work toward becoming a better person in regards to my diet, my fitness, my impact on the earth, and my compassion towards everything. After becoming vegan in 2008, I decided that I was going to start 2010 eating a raw vegan diet for the month of January and then every Monday for the rest of the year I would eat only raw as well. I saw this as a good challenge and a good time to cleanse my system for a fresh beginning to the year. I also set smaller goals that I can do on a daily basis, one is that I commited to only using cloth bags for groceries this year and told myself I am not allowed to take home any plastic back from the grocery store from now on. Also another small goal is I have commited to composting my cooking scraps 100%, last year when I began composting I would only do it sometimes, so I want to always do it from now on. And my final goal for the year was to ad some classic books reading to my life, so my husband and I have been reading Walden by HDT to get that going as well. So far we are 7 days into the new year and I have kept all my resolutions and am very excited about the year to come. I am also seeing big changes in my family, who were eating meat last year and have slowly transitioned into more of a vegan diet, my mom and dad, my husband and a few friends. I feel proud that my action and example has inspired others to become more educated and open to a kinder lifestyle. Cheers to a wonderful 2010!

My goal this year is not small. But I'm a "Go Big or go Home!" kinda girl. My goal is nothing new- get healthy, lose weight. But my approach has been more extreme, and to make sure my goal is in my sights everywhere- I recruited!

At work I started a 12 week "Get Fit" Challenge with weigh-ins , weekly prizes for the most encouraging team member and meetings to share at. This helps ensure I won't fall prey to poor eating habits at the office.

For my home life, I challenged my mom and sisters to "Go Vegan" for 12 weeks with me! They have all jumped in with both feet. We grocery shop together, share recipes and brainstorm ways to plan ahead. My husband and kids are very supportive and often choose meals we can all share together.

For my exercise, I took to heart the advice that it needs to be something I WANT to do. I purchased snowshoes and have utterly enjoyed my treks through nature. My spirits are soaring, I feel connected, and what if that should that change? I have brought along a strong network of people to help me achieve my goals!

My resolution has been to be active every day, and be more mindful of my habits. So far so good- yoga practice day number 7!

I wrote about mine here - The Vegan Conspiracy Fitness Challenge. Granted it's not on "smaller, more manageable change" but that's just the way I roll!
