September Thrive Challenge

Inspired by the lifestyle changes recommended in Thrive and Thrive in 30, the Vega Community is here to keep you on track, share in your successes, and inspire even greater change to help you achieve optimal health.

Summer has come to a winding halt, and now, it’s back to the routine. We want you to Thrive in whatever it is you’re doing – whether it's work or class – and what better way to do that than getting up earlier and eating breakfast? We think it’s a good start anyway...

This month, we challenge you to compare how your everyday breakfast measures up to only one single serving of Vega’s Complete Whole Food Health Optimizer; using our NEW online Breakfast Nutrition Calculator.

What makes Whole Food Health Optimizer so special compared to other breakfasts? Just in case you forgot... it’s 100% plant-based, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy free and it’s super low in calories! Only one single serving guarantees 100% of your daily vitamins and minerals AND 60% daily intake of fibre, all while promoting healthy weight loss and optimal health.

Your challenge this month: Bring your breakfast to centre stage and plug the ingredients into our nutrition calculator and share how it compares to Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer. How did it make you feel? Did you notice an increase in energy or fewer cravings throughout the day? Tell us about it. If you already have a Vega smoothie each morning, tell us why and how it makes you feel compared to before you started.

How to enter: Take the Breakfast Challenge and post a comment, below, or to Vega’s Facebook fanpage.

Prize: A one month supply - two 15-serving containers - of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer, a nutritionally complete, alkaline and easy to digest, natural health-optimizing supplement. Approximate retail value: $150.

Contest closes: Entries must be received by September 30, 2011 at 11:59 pm PDT.

Winner: Congrats to Andrew, the winner of our September Thrive Challenge.

I usually had slow cooked oat groats with apples, pumpkin, currants, raisins, with spices. I changed to WFHO about 8 weeks ago and have found that my mental clarity is improving, no more slow mornings. I broke my foot last week and am eating less while I rest and recover so am glad that I have high quality ingredients to get be back to good health. I had also added the protien to my post workouts and have a faster recovery. I'm expecting to heal faster that the Dr. thinks I will he gives me 1-2 months, I expect to have my cast off in 4 weeks and be ready to train, run & enjoy yoga again as much as I had before my injury.

I just love waking up to Super Brownies and a Vegatini. The recipes on the website are fantastic!

My salad dressing of choice has the Tropical Mango smoothie powder in it...get the recipe on the site.

Next breakfast will be Buckwheat pancakes with Berry VWFHO added to Healthy Top whipped topping by Mimiccreme. Topping is almond and cashew based.

Hey Brendan, you are welcome to come for breakfast.

Love this for breakfast most days of the week.  With kids and the joy-full chaos that comes with them, if I dont get a quick smoothie in the morning I mix up a scoop of this with water and it does me well for most of the day.  I love the chai WFO with a banana and ricemilk and ice in the vitamix for a treat.  Yum.

To me breakfast is the most important meal of the day! My usual breakfast would consist of steel-cut oats,  egg whites, flax seed and blueberries.  I have been using Vega WHFO for the past few months. As an ICU nurse there are times snacks/meals get missed and I found by having a WHFO shake for breakfast I do not have the blood sugar swing/cravings as when I eat solids. There is evidence base practice in nursing and I believe this product stands up to what it claims too and love to share the word with my peers.  The WHFO makes me satisfied, is easily digestible and gives me the added energy.  The chlorella and maca is also a plus.  Thanks for giving me the boost I need to get thru 12hr shifts.

I usually eat whole grain, high fiber cereal and soymilk, plus fruit like a banana, berries, etc. This is a pretty good breakfast, but it doesn't have the Omega fats that WFHO has, and of course not the chlorella and other superfood type additions.

Actually, I could probably mix up some WFHO (I do love the chocolate flavor) and use it as "milk" in my bran cereal. :)

I have been using Vega WFHO I'd have to say almost a year now and absolutely swear by it.  I have 1 scoop with unsweetened Almond Milk and a teaspoon of CACAO powder in the morning.I haven't been sick in a very long time and I think that this stuff has helped with that.  I have more energy and know that I am doing my body much better than I have in the past.  I have recommended this product to a lot of people and when they hear the price they do cringe a little.  However once they start comparing to other products you really can't compare.  With this shake it takes the guess work out.  You get all of the nutrients you need +.  It works well for a person always on the go.  People have said I should be a spokes person for the product!

I have also started to take the Vega sport before and during my workouts.  Great stuff.  Keeps me hydrated and and gives me the energy I need.

Now I want to start having a scoop for dinner.  This will be an after workout meal.  Should I add anything special to it?

I alternate between the Vega Vanilla Sport and eating oatmeal or Kashi cereal with berries or egg whites.  Vega always fills me up and hits the spot, while giving nutrition, though I admit some days when I have time, I like to sit down with a plate of food for breakfast!

Well there really isn't much of a challenge since I rarely eat breakfast.  But would love to try the Whole Food Health Optimizer.

I haven't yet tried the WHFO, but love the Chocolate Almond Smoothies! The convenience of being able to make a smoothie with just water anywhere, anytime is the biggest benefit to this product. After seeing how my typical breakfast stacks up to the WHFO, looks like this is something I'm going to be trying very soon!

As a triathlete, I do one of my workouts in the morning. I used to get up, eat two pieces of toast with pb&jelly, drink some coffee and PRAY that I wouldn’t have any digestive distress during my morning workout.  I would have to get up early, eat, wait to digest my food and even then, I had to know where every bathroom was located on my run or bike route.

I switched to Vega WFHO in March. I was skeptical at first – could a simple drink really keep me fueled for an hour+ workout? Believe me, it can. It’s fast and easy to digest so I can sleep a little bit longer each morning. Using WFHO everyday, I’ve also lost weight (old breakfast - 411 calories, WFHO – 240 calories) and my acne is gone AND I don’t have horrible PMS anymore.  It makes me feel better then I ever had. To me, switching to WFHO is the best decision I have ever made.

I tell one person everyday about this product! If I am shopping in the health food store I usually talk to other customers. I make sure to ask them if they have heard of or tried Vega products. I proceed to tell them to check it out on line and to try the product. I will even write them the web address so they don't miss out on getting themselves feeling the best they can feel with these products! I need my food to be free of gluten, sugar, soy, dairy, corn, and most grains. Thanks for a wonderful product and caring enough to share. G.B.A. nasc

I never eat the same breakfast everyday but because we are going to be approaching autumn I will be getting a surplus of apples from my apple tree soon!  I like to make a fall apple oatmeal for breakfast:

depending on how hungrey I am is how many apples I use, usually 2-3, and however  many apples used is the same number of dates;

2 apples, 2 dates, splash of pure vanilla, a bunch of cinnamon, and just a swirl of pure maple syrup, i just pulse it all up in a food processor and it makes a yummy oatmeal!  I usually eat  that with a green juice on the side :)

The Vega Whole Health Optimizer still kicked my butt when it broke down what all nutrients I was getting in this breakfast and in that!

I would LOVE to have Vega for breakfast every morning!!!!! But I need to win this contest to do that!!!! PLEASE PICK ME TO BE THE WINNER THIS MONTH!!!!!!

Before I started using Vega I had been having abdominal pain for something close to 3 years but had always been showing signs of abdominal dysfunction throughout my life. At first I didn't know how often or when to take the Vega but thankfully on the cap you suggested that the Vega be your daily breakfast. I would say that after about a week or 2 of religiously and LOVINGLY using the Vega each morning as my breakfast has substantially changed my life. Where before I was gluten intolerant to where I had to cut gluten entirely out of my diet because it would rob me of all of my energy and make me extremely lethargic. Living gluten free is easy but thanks to the daily Vega I believe that my gut flora has been replaced and that my stomach is healthier now. And since then I have almost no more abdominal pain, atleast not daily continual pain like before. So a great big thank you to Vega. In the three years leading up to my starting to use Vega daily, I had seen countless amounts of doctors, dozens...and had always got the same response, "Abdominal pain is tough we can never really know exactly what it is..:" Doctor after doctor, telling me the same thing. I was actually given antibiotics at one time for this disease they could not pin point that made me extremely sick. I had had it with Western Medecine. When it came to my abdominal pain anyway. I have been teaching pilates in Montreal for just over a year now and using Vega for about 4 month, and I have never felt better. Thanks to Brendan. For my smoothie I keep it nice and simple. 2 scoops of Vega, 5-6 large strawberries, and water. How much water I do not know, the goal here is to make a nice thick consistency to the smoothie. Taste's amazing and is super simple and easy to do rather than have multiple ingredients to buy and keep around the house. This recipe travels well too :0)

I can't seem to enter my breakfast into the calculator...it won't accept some, and won't give me the quantities I's like.  After reading Thrive Fitness, my breakfast consists of a green smoothie all pureed in my Vitamix: 1 1/2 c. kale, 1 c. fresh pineapple, 1/2 mango, 1 T. chia seeds (soaked), 1 T. sprouted raw buckwheat, 1 T. spirulina (and grasses) mix, 1 T. hemp protein powder.  I feel great and have good energy all day.

Vega Smoothies are simply amazing! every morning after my run, swim or yoga class i blend up a smoothie with fruits of the season. right now my smoothies consists of either 1) peaches, nectarines, bananas, vega whole food health optimizer (chocolate yum!!!), ice for a slushy texture 2) berries, bananas, vega whole food health optimizer, ice

so delicious and so nutritious!

i started enhancing my diet with vega at the start of summer and wow! every time i drink it (either mixed with water or in smoothie form) i can feel my body immediately rejuvenate and get a *zing* of new energy! i can also tell how my quality of workouts (from running to doing yoga) have been amped up since my body has more fuel and has also been recovered with fuller (more complete) nutrients thanks to this product ...thank you bredan brazier for your creation!

I've been using Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer for about 8 months now. I was having some significant issues that just made me not feel quite right - nails dry and cracking, skin dry, whites of the eyes not bright, some hormonal issues, etc. Now after using this product, which I have for breakfast daily, I'm seeing a complete turn around! My skin actually got a little worse for a few days after I started but then by about a month in, I could see signs of positive change, remarkable! Sometimes you don't need a pill from a doctor, you just need to put good food in your body! So, no need to take the breakfast challenge here! I'm already on the right track. Thanks for making such a great product! Pick me! Pick me! (But even if you don't I still love your product...)   :)   P.S. I love the berry flavor best!

I started having Vega shakes for breakfast about three weeks ago. I mix in some frozen berries and some banana with some ice and water to make my natural or berry flavoured Vega into a refreshing burst of morning nutrition. I used to eat Vector cereal in the mornings, but I was feeling really heavy afterward. It's also nasty to eat something that sticks to your teeth for a long time after. I started having the shakes, and within a few days I was actually craving it upon waking. I'm amazed at how quickly the shakes became a part of my morning routine. I'm in the process of moving from vegetarian to vegan, and this is a great (and painless) way to start. I'm also working on switching my mindset from "living to eat" to "eating to live". Food is fuel, not something we eat to pass the time.
