October Thrive Challenge

Inspired by the lifestyle changes recommended in Thrive and Thrive in 30, the Vega Community is here to keep you on track, share in your successes, and inspire even greater change to help you achieve optimal health.

“Too early, too cold, my legs hurt, I was up late;” sound familiar? During the winter months, it can be easy to find reasons for why not to exercise. So, what’s your plan for staying motivated this time of the year?

For some, it might be joining a running club or finding a training buddy to help you stay on track. For others, it could be keeping an exercise journal to compare how you feel before and after your workouts.

Honestly, there are no excuses not to sweat every day!  Even ten minutes is good.  I put my clothes out the night before and get my water bottle ready.  No excuses!!!

Too much work, too much work, yup, too much work... and that is only an excuse, nothing else...

I have a lot of sports related injuries, so a lot of times I can't workout, or am afraid of re-injuring myself.  I plan on taking good care of my body--not pushing my workouts TOO hard, but still challenging myself so I don't have any excuses.  I also plan to get massages regularly (as the budget allows) to keep my body healthy.

Excuses: it's too dark or cold to run this morning!  Plan: I run very early with friends, so if I don't go, someone will be without a running partner, making it harder to skip.  I also have a dog that needs to be exercised, which help with motivation.  My favorite trick though is going to bed in my running outfit- huge time saver!

As a group exercise instructor I can easily tell myself on the days I don't work...I workout enough already, I don't need to do anything extra if I don't feel like it.  What I really should be telling myself is, yeah I do cardio consistenly(im a zumba instructor), but on those off days I should be cross training!  Of course I need rest days too!!! But I have done a few things to switch up my routine as the seasons change.  I started teaching a yoga class which involves strength and stretching as well as a great way to mellow out and find peace at mind and I have a day of the week where I have options for what strength activity I will do.  I can go to the gym for a muscle pump class or just use the free weights or I can choose an at home option if the cold weather is keeping me bundled in doors.  I have the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD that I really enjoy.  I also want to take advantage of the free pure bar classes in my area when they send me newsletters updating me on there classes.  I know I wont freeze this week, the weather is beautiful!  But these are the last days of fall beauty until the winter freeze begins!

I broke my foot!! really... but I plan to work upper body, continue yoga, & single leg..

my regular winter excuse though is I don't snow drive... so no gym, or classes, however, I have a buddy willing to pick me up for workouts now, & I'll pay her back with d'lish dinners! I am also bringing my weights up to my room, so I literally trip over them in the morning... simple!
