Inspired by the lifestyle changes recommended in Thrive and Thrive in 30, the Vega Community is here to keep you on track, share in your successes, and inspire even greater change to help you achieve optimal health. |
“Too early, too cold, my legs hurt, I was up late;” sound familiar? During the winter months, it can be easy to find reasons for why not to exercise. So, what’s your plan for staying motivated this time of the year?
For some, it might be joining a running club or finding a training buddy to help you stay on track. For others, it could be keeping an exercise journal to compare how you feel before and after your workouts.
Your challenge this month: Reveal your best excuses for skipping out on the gym or your scheduled run, and then tell us your plan (or goal) for overcoming them!
How to enter: Post a comment, below, or to Vega’s Facebook fanpage.
Prize: A container of Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer and Vega Sport Performance Protein (post-workout recovery). Approximate retail value: $115.
Contest closes: Entries must be received by October 31, 2011 at 11:59 pm PDT.
Winner: Congrats to Megan, the winner of this month's Thrive Challenge!

Comment by marlene on October 15, 2011 at 12:33pm I get up and dressed and it's dark out side - even though the little ones and already in school - what the heck I'm afraid of the dark ask my family. So I wait until the sun just starts to come up as I don't want to go out in the blazing sun - no good for my face, wrinkles you know. Just at the right moment I open the doors and it hits you like your opening the oven door to bast that thanksgiving turkey. Way to hot 92 at 7AM and the humidity, your soaking wet just standing there and I haven't done anything. Maybe if I walk fast I'll create a breeze to help cool me down. And did I mention the mosquitoes that are out all day long, you would think I live in the rain forest. How about the python that slither across my path(10 footer) or the coral snake or the 2 ratters. The deer and panthers are nice.
So in order to start taking care of myself I start out with a Vega Optimizer drink then arm myself with a cell phone, radio, a flash light, whistle, mosquito netting (no not really) longs sleeves, lace up my fashionable sneakers and go for a walk/run around the area. Oh yes, don't forget the house keys - got locked out once.
I plan on changing my eating habits (no excuses) drink Vega Optimizer and get going to a healthier life and down and couple dress sizes and a stronger heart.
Comment by Diane on October 14, 2011 at 10:32am Skipping a workout is usually not the case. Rest to rebuild is the problem here. Somehow need to find balance and good nutrition to help with recovery which is the reason why I am on this blog. :-)
Comment by Andrea Giles on October 13, 2011 at 3:58am My favourite excuses are "I'm tired" and "It's too cold". I plan on using my sick cat as motivation to get me out - I'll do it for her because she can't do it herself.
Even if I'm tired, I can still at least go for a brisk walk, rather than my usual run and if it's too cold, I can always use my treadmill.
I shouldn't have an excuse, I don't have any kids and I'm self employed with my own schedule, but I still come up with them. I over trained last time and my knee still "hurts", I don't have time to fit in a workout, I'll do it tomorrow and then my favorite is not getting my butt out of my comfy warm bed just to get bundled up and go out in the cold.
I plan to overcome this by preparing a preworkout snack the evening before sleep in my workout outfit to cut down on time. Then set three separate alarms on my phone in the morning so that I will be forced to wake up to one of them. Once up listen to some motivational music to get me psyched about the workout. Hello 'Eye of the Tiger'! I plan on investing in an indoor bike trainer for days when I don't want to head outside. Lastly after recently turning 30 I promised myself this would be the year to run my first marathon. I pinky swore myself on this one and now everyone reading this is a witness. Game on!
