Peggy K's #1 tip in her top 5 immune boosting tips is to get your vitamin D!

Getting this naturally from the sun is my new winter goal.  I have always been one to come inside by November and use my "dreadmill" until I come out of hybernation in the Spring.   I vow to embrace the cold NH winter and run outside this year.  I have some great cold weather gear and fully intend to beat the winter blahs by staying outside instead of my basement!

I wish I could tell you all of the great excersizes I have been doing... but I have been unable to do most things for the past 6 years because of FMS... and many other health issues that lead to it and from it. After some online reading and feeling hopeless with my health we decided to change our diet to vegan. I was shocked and still am daily, how much my body is healing from good food. Our frusterations certainly fall into the hands of our medical community for not taking good nutrition as a responsibility. I feel my life changing rapidly. I am healing from the inside out - something I have never experienced before. FINALLY... I am starting at the gym next week for the first time in 7 years. I am excited and apprehensive all at the same time because it does not take much at all to over do anything when you have FMS, for recovery is very slow. With much reading about Vega products I am jumping in with both feet with the Optimizer, Protein and Performance Optimizers. I feel confident that this is finally my journey to the finish line of ill health. I am not writing this message to win... (although I would love to! ) I am writing this to encourage anyone who is reading this and struggling with pain or ill health - start with your food, it is what makes you who you are. Eat clean, mostly raw, vegan and give yourself that chance to succeed. There are highs and lows of every journey we take in life - the lows make us just as strong as the highs.

I was back home in Québec a month and a half ago started to get into the Thrive. Already lost a few pounds by eating better, running the dog, and indoor climbing to get ready for the winter season! First day ice-climbing last week-end felt great and looking forward to ski too...

Bikram yoga or other forms of hot yoga sure help to beat the winter blues here in Minneapolis! There's nothing like a break from the freezing temps with a little heat and humidity along with a little detox to boot!

Snow shoeing hands down...can't get enough of raw-crisp nature!

Now that the temperature has fallen to the 30-40s (!), I've realized that I am no longer driven to running 30+ miles per week outside, in the morning, in the dark, cold and wet. Becoming healthier should not be one dimensional - I'm trying to become a more well-rounded person, inside and out. Therefore, I cut back on my outside running mileage, and have taken up pilates, yoga, and the occasional zumba class at my gym! Why not? It makes sense to exercise the body in different ways when the weather gets cold.

In the winter cross country skiing is the best exercise one can find to keep it up and enjoy the snow! I love skiing during a sunny winter day thru the woods of cause if there is a trail otherwise get your snow shoes ready for snow shoeing :)
If there are indoor courts near buy I always heat the court for a couple of hours. Tennis is one of the best sports for me out there... it's fun, physically demanding and relieves stress at the same time. and of cause there is always the GYM, weights, yoga, boot camp you name it... I usually pick a victim in my of my friends and drug them out to the gym against their winter blahs... but in the end I have saved a friend from couch potato syndrome....

Well, here in Greece we're still getting 20degree weather (thats 70+ degrees F)......
During winter I always do my heavy weight training - can hardly imagine doing anything else.
I also love some easy relaxing hiking in the mountains.
Nothing extreme ... this is more to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature.

oh, i also make sure i try to have a freind doing those activities with me, cause if i don't feel like it, they will be there to make sure i am active and get my butt out of bed!

i still do swimming, biking and running. this year since i asst coach the HS swim team, i am joining them on their morning swims twice a week! makes it much more interesting and fun than what i normally do.
last year it snowed and it stayed! so i went xc skiing. we made a 1 mile loop and tried to beat each other with each loop. then reversed who started first. much more fun than indoor cycling sessions!
this year i am working on single leg strength to make sure both sides are working the same, and until that is 'fixed' and balanced, then minimal running although i did run pain-free last sunday. now to run regularly and then add speed work over the winter.

How I stay active during the winter months and really all year long, I teach in door cycle classes at two health clubs, plus core/ab classes. I also teach a cardio/sculpt/bootcamp class! On my "off" days I volunteer at a horse rescue sanctuary where I feed, do minor medical treatments, brush, and I get to play with the horses,I also clean the stables (there are 50). I'm active in my 14 year old daughters modeling career as well, taking her to photo shoots, etc. I'm always on the go.

I teach cardio kickboxing 3 times a week, practice karate 3 other days of the week and I have 4 horses that need to be ridden. This should prepare me well for this winter's really fun project: ski jorring behind my rescued Standardbred horse! Since he's well trained to drive, I plan on having a blast skiing behind him on our 350-acre farm! (that's him in the picture. Isn't he absolutely gorgeous?) <3

My favorite way to stay active is to always have an audio book on hand. After I put my 3 boys to sleep, sometimes the desire to HEAR what will happen next while on the teadmill is the only reason I don't go to my own bed. It doesn't matter what kind of book, vegan living, murder mystery, Harry Potter . . . it is a great way to knock out the book you've wanted to read while getting in a work out. I've never tried a Vega product so I'll cross my fingers that I'll win this incredible bundle.

I love taking exercise classes. I usually workout 4 times a week on my own, and then rely on a few mornings a week in exercise classes to keep things exciting! I find taking spin classes, bikram yoga, weight training classes and bosu cardio classes is a great way to keep variation. As well, my shiba inu keeps me very active as she LOVES to play in the snow!

Massages and warm baths with my girlfriend all winter. Does that count? If not, pool and treadmill workouts and lots of yoga in the MA Berkshires!!!
Comment by Cardio Captain on November 11, 2010 at 5:01pm
Cellercise!! Its so fun because it works every cell and all I'm basically doing is jumping on a rebounder. Although epic winter runs, treadmill (interval training), P90x, and hitting the gym have their days as well.

BOOTCAMP! BIKRAM YOGA and INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING! can't wait for yoga just because of the relief i get from my "winter blahs".
Comment by Leslie on November 10, 2010 at 7:30am
I love doing P90X at home. I also enjoy hiking with my dogs on the weekend, out in the fresh air in our beautiful red rock country of Southern Utah.

No time for the winter blahs!!! I love running in the winter and to remind me of summer fun I hit the pool at least 4 days a week. Although I have to admit driving to the pool in a snow storm does give me a little bit opf the blahs:)
