May Thrive Challenge

Inspired by the lifestyle changes recommended in Thrive and Thrive in 30, the Vega Community is here to keep you on track, share in your successes, and inspire even greater change to help you achieve optimal health.

Hemp is one of the Earth's most nutritious, sustainable, and versatile crops, dating back more than 10,000 years. Not only does it provide solutions in numerous industries including food, clothing, extreme sports, and alternative fuels (such as hemp biodiesel), hemp can be used in over 25, 000 known applications. Who knew?!

Here are some ways to incorporate hemp into your life and make a stand for sustainability – be it our health, planet or economy!

  • Clothing – Three times more durable and providing greater breathability than cotton, invest in long-lasting hemp clothing and work-out gear.

  • Foods – Free of gluten and other common allergens, hemp foods are rich in easily-digestible protein, EFAs and naturally-occurring vitamins and minerals. Check your local health food store and stock up on the variety of hemp foods available including nut butters, frozen desserts and more!

  • Body Care – Switch to moisturizing, natural body care products made with hemp oil, such as lotions, soaps or lip balms.

In the spirit of Hemp History Week, we want to know the ways you are going to incorporate hemp into your life. For more information about Hemp or how you can get involved in Hemp History Week (May 2-8th), visit www.hemphistoryweek.com.

Smoothies with hemp milk and hemp protein powder, and natural skin care products with hemp!

I put hemp oil into my smoothies and hemp hearts into salads and oatmeal. Also, my winter coat from Hoodlamb is made of organic cotton and hemp and it is so incredibly warm!

I wear hemp shoes and other clothing items when they are available.  I love Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer, and I make my own hemp milk at home.  I also use hemp soaps, lotions and lip balms.

I sneak hemp seeds into practically ALL my sons meals, and my husbands too! In shakes, salads, sandwiches, into rice or quinoa.

I have made the transition from commercial salad dressings to preparing a really simple and tasty one at home with hemp oil, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, some pepper and a little honey or agave.  Great way to get in a yummy salad with great EFA'S!

Hemp seeds are a pillar ingredient in the "Super Saiyan" porridge I make for myself after a workout. It goes into a mixture of organic quick oats, sprouted quinoa, crashed flax seeds, a splash of soy milk, and some brown sugar, sea salt, and cinnamon. SO GOOD!

Hemp fabric is beautiful.  I am an Interior Designer, I specialize in window coverings.  I try to discourage polyester and other man made textiles already, mostly cotton, silk and wool.  I am going to make a special point of finding more drapery fabrics in hemp.  I will also look into some lines of wool/hemp combo biodegradable carpets.  I have used Alterna Hemp hair products for years, it is a wonderful line.  This year, when I started eating vegan I learned the joy of hemp protein, I use it with raw cocoa for homemade chocolate protein bars.  I use hemp oil in my smoothies.  There is also hemp in many of the Vega products, I have just started using them.  I am looking forward though, to trying hemp tea.  I wish they grew hemp in the USA, it seems like an awful waste.

Hemp Milk is delicious!  I make it in my blendtec blender.... 1/2 cup hemp seeds with 3 cups water.  blend on high and strain through a milk bag or cheese cloth.  This makes a thick cream so I add another 2-3 cups of water.  Perfect.  A pinch of celtic sea salt is yummy too.  I use this milk on cereals, in smoothies or just on its own.  Hemp seeds are also used in granola bars and smoothies.

I absolutely LOVE hemp and use it daily.  Near the end of the month I'm a vendor at a bodybuilding event, and will be featuring hemp hearts and hemp oil.  I addition, I plan to have raw foods for puchase, such as raw carrot cake with hemp seeds in the cake!

First I would just like to say how grateful I am to be part of Vega Community and Brendan for creating Vega. I would also like to say thank you for those who are helping Vega grow! Ever since I have picked up Brendan's first book, Thrive, and had his Vega Meal Replacement I have become a more efficient athlete and a better person overall. Thank you!

As an athlete, I eat Hemp seeds almost everyday in salad, smoothies and in my energy/protein bars.

My favourite is in my salad with this simple delicious salad dressing I created:

2 Tbps Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Tbps Vega EFA Oil Blend

1/3-1/2 Cup of Water

1 Tsp Maple Syrup

1 clove garlic chopped

½ Tbsp Hemp Hearts

Pinch of Sea Salt

YUM!

Brendan's Thrive book and products were my intro into the world of raw foods, especially for those like myself that are very active (running, cycling, swimming). Hemp is central to most of Brendan's recipes, so I have really enjoyed using the oil and seeds in smoothies, energy bars, salads, pizzas, etc. I was never a big fan of oils in the past, but knowing that hemp oil is a good source of protein and other nutrients has turned me on to using them (both hemp, and the EFA blend).
I would love to find some hemp clothing and body care products. I am on the road to becoming more and more environmentally conscious, so thank you for making me aware of just how many products are made from hemp!

We add hemp to all kinds of things it blends up in smoothies and on top of salads and by the handful..in granolas all kinds of raw and baked goodies. I keep a jar of raw hemp seeds filled on the kitchen counter and the kids walk by and snack on it all day... As a crunchy topping to ice creams even the hemp ice creams...it goes well with every thing... I especially enjoy the hemp rope and twine in my garden and using to tie up presents...In the processing of shopping for hemp clothing for summer for the family. Hemp hats and shopping bags.... ahhh the list goes on and on...

I usually add it to my salads, or on top of my breakfast when I have oatmeal or quinoa with berries.

I'm going to start adding a scoop of hemp seeds to my morning oatmeal! A new way of getting a little protein boost in the morning.
