share. learn. thrive!
Inspired by the lifestyle changes recommended in Thrive and Thrive in 30, the Vega Community is here to keep you on track, share in your successes, and inspire even greater change to help you achieve optimal health.
Whether we were ready or not, 2012 is here. It may take a few days to recover from the holidays, but thoughts will inevitably return to what we’d like to accomplish this year. The Vega Community has been discussing goals for 2012, but even goal setting requires a certain level of motivation; so what exactly ignites that fire?
That’s the burning question, yet something we can only answer for ourselves. While our goals throughout the Vega Community may be somewhat similar, the motivation to both set and reach those goals is unique and individual.
Motivation is literally the desire to do things, and the reason we hit the trails instead of sleeping in. It is also the cornerstone of reaching our goals, and we have a big influence on our own level motivation and self-control. So yes, we aren’t just our own worst enemies- we are also our own biggest motivators.
Perhaps you’ve recently seen Brendan Brazier speak and are inspired to make some lifestyle changes; how are you going to turn that inspiration into motivation? There’s inspiration everywhere, so what inspires you to get motivated? Is it being healthy enough to keep up with your children? Are you tired of feeling tired? Do you want to take your fitness to the next level? Seeking more endurance, strength, or flexibility?
Take some time to reflect on these questions, read what motivates other Vega Community members, and then share your thoughts with us. Even just writing down goals can boost motivation as you lay out a set of instructions for your subconscious mind to carry out. Plus you’ll get lots of inspiration and motivation throughout the Vega Community to boot.

Comment by Raechel on January 7, 2012 at 1:02pm Healthy food bloggers motivate me! Also, my mom motivates me; she's actually *not* in good health because she works two jobs and can't afford a lot of fancy food stuff or gym memberships, but she motivates me because I want to be an inspiration for her to see all the positive benefits of making healthy living a priority. She won't have the time to do all that I do, but hopefully something I do will inspire her to make even the smallest change!
Comment by Clay on January 7, 2012 at 12:19pm My motivations come from keeping company with a community that has similar goals (and shares their experiences). I also keep motivated by pictures of myself...including what I want to look like and what I DON'T want to look like (I have plenty of the latter). It's funny...I was just looking at a picture of myself from last June. I remember feeling unsatisfied with how I looked. Now I look back and think, "wow...what a change!".
Keeping in balance motivates me. To keep balance in life I find that the more I focus on my health, fitness, what I eat, new fitness challenges, how I influence others to make the good choices, what I feed my family; all contribute to my feeling balanced and in tune with myself.
Comment by Jen Salazar on January 7, 2012 at 11:27am This is truly a "secret" that I'm confessing, but what really motivates me is trying to keep up with other fit people in my life. Friends who are in great shape and health keep me and my competitive edge burning to constantly redouble my efforts!
Comment by Suzette Henderson on January 7, 2012 at 10:20am Eating healthfully is my priority! (LOVE the new cookbook!) By feeling my best, I can be my best whether in training, play, or work. When it seems that I'm in a bit of a training rut, I'll bring someone along to train, an incorporate new moves! With a little fun competition, i find greater intensity and become re-invigorated. Thanks too for the exceptional products!

Comment by Irena on January 7, 2012 at 9:26am Success motivates me, not because of the money or the lifestyle, but the feeling of accomplishment. Love is also a great motivator in my life.
Comment by Lisa Gallarini on January 7, 2012 at 9:21am Reading inspirational stories of people who have walked in my shoes motivates me. Music pushes me as well.
Comment by Mary Ellen on January 7, 2012 at 9:13am What motivates me is the strong sense of control I have when I accomplish goals I set for myself. With that, success breeds success.
