February 2012 Thrive Challenge

Inspired by the lifestyle changes recommended in Thrive and Thrive in 30, the Vega Community is here to keep you on track, share in your successes, and inspire even greater change to help you achieve optimal health.

We all need that special someone when the going gets tough. That is why it’s great to work out and exercise with a training buddy. For some people, it’s a running partner joining in on those early-morning, long-distance runs, helping you prepare for that marathon you said you’d finally do this year. For other people, that training buddy is a personal trainer, someone who is a professional at identifying dormant potential and trained to spark that fire inside by pushing you to pass the limits you set for yourself.

Or maybe that training buddy is a 3 month old baby, giggling and wiggling their little legs on the yoga mat next to a new Mom who is striving to get her flexibility and figure back. And maybe it’s a four-legged best friend, the ONLY friend that is ready before you, waiting at the door and willing to brave the coldest winds, rain, sleet and snow, just to spend a half-hour by your side.

Your Thrive Challenge this month: Share your story about your training buddy. Who are they and how they inspire you and keep you motivated to push your limits—or just plain keep you company!

How to enter: Post a comment below, or on Vega’s Facebook fanpage.

Prize: 2 tubs of Vega Pre-workout Energizer—one for you, and one for your *training-buddy. Approximate retail value: $99.98. (*Vega Pre-workout Energizer is an adult beverage and should not be given to babies or dogs.)

Contest closes: Entries must be received by Feb 29th, 2012 at 11:59 pm PDT.

Everyday I am grateful for my dog, Kaya. She gets me out for a walk in the sun, rain, snow or whatever. Other than when I've been out of town, she's helped motivate me to get out for a walk every day for the last (almost) 6 years!

My training buddy is my hubby. He helps keep me on track when I need it and reminds me to rest when my brain gets the better of me. He also gives me that extra push when I make excuses (like being tired or it's too cold outside or...)

Best training buddy anyone could ask for :)

I actually have 2 super training/running buddies right now! You know you have good friends when they are willing to travel and do crazy things to support your race. I'm leaving tomorrow to tackle my first 100 mile trail run at Rocky Raccoon. Each of my friends is going to travel 3.5 hours to come run 20 miles each with me in the middle of what looks to be a rainy Texas night. They are going to pull me through miles 60 to 100! I would love to give a container to each of them!

I have been working out and playing sports for years..but sometimes i get bored with the gym and the classes at the gym. For the past year I met a girl by the name of Dana who I have now developed a good friendship with and we look forward to seeing each other at the gym, either doing the class together or moaning and groaning about how much we DONT want to do cardio that day, but we'll make a pact to each put in the time. Being accountable to each other has been great!!  :)

I am 54 years old and am so surprised that I am where I am at now........in a wheelchair. I was always active, yoga, racquetball, weight lifting swimming and any other organized sport that you can think of.Yes, I love cookies and baking so exercise was always a must to keep me in my favorite jeans.I walked into the hospital but didn't walk out. It has been almost five years and I am starting to walk with help. It is alot harder to learn how to walk the second time. I can work up quite a sweat with just walking once around the track with my personal trainer, Tony. We discuss my physical improvements and enjoy Vega Electrolyte Hydrator after my workouts. I can't say enough about Tony and Vega products. Hopefully I will be walking well enough to pick berries this summer and fall. Thank you

I used to be able to run just two minutes because I did not know the techniques of runnings - that was at least four years ago. Seven months ago, one of my buddies learned my running "issue"; she decided to train me. We started to run around lakeshore area in Toronto for three months three times a week, I started to fall into with running. Then, we started to run less together due to busy schedules. No problem I said to myself, I learn to run with my four legged friend at least once a week; about once or twice a week I run with the Running Room Group in my area. When it is really cold or raining, I exercise at the gyms in my condo. For the month of January, I live up to my new year resolutions which I exercise/run at least three or four times a week. I also put a "lid" on my wine consumption, I limit my drinking once a month. I also share my positive exercise/eating whole food experience with my buddies. After reading all the challenges at Vega here, I am so grateful that I live such a wonderful life by exercising and eating whole foods regularily. Thanks to be my exercises buddies!

I have an AMAZING training buddy! We've been running together and swimming together for the last 6 months and I honestly believe she's an integral part in my training schedule consistency. Not only do we keep each other accountable (and she tries to keep me on time), but we have developed a fantastic friendship that keeps us encouraging one another in all aspects of our lives; as well as solid foundation when we need it. We keep each other moving and always strive to better ourselves. Your awesome, HH!!!
