Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the group :) I took my Kundalini, Hatha and Children's yoga teacher training in Ottawa at Rama Lotus Yoga Centre and Upward Dog. I loved all 3 trainings. You should definitely take the training. It will change your life. Have a great weekend!

Hi! How experienced should you be for the Teacher Training? I have less than a year's experience, but am fairly active and work in the Health Professions. However, yoga is quite a different beast! I struggle keeping my balance and have quite a ways to go...yet, I am drawn to the training for what it is and also for personal discovery. It is quite expensive though. Any advice/comments? I have been told "Go for it!" to "Wait awhile"...but I feel I am always waiting in life.

Also, do you mind if I ask if you make your living off of instructing Yoga? Is it possible to have it as a source of income - I would imagine the hours are erratic and it requires quite a bit of juggling?!

Hi JLA

I would recommend at least 6 months of regular yoga practice before taking Teacher Training. Teacher training will transform your life. You will know yourself better and this awareness will help you make better decisions in all areas of your life.

I suggest to "Go for it!". You have nothing to lose. It will deepen you personal practice and the expense will pay off once you start teaching. You can claim the course on taxes and all other expenses related to yoga. Keep all your receipts.

I do teach yoga full-time. I am a certified Hatha and Kundalini yoga teacher. I also teach the Radiant Child Yoga Program and am current creating my own teacher training for kids. I teach about 14 a week. Ideally it would be 12 but I have only been teaching full-time for a year. You are right, the hours are erratic and there is some juggling involved. I don't recommend anyone teach-full time right after taking teacher training. It's best to ease into it. I took me 5 years to make the leap.

Good luck and keep me posted.

Hi,
Where would you recommend to do the Teacher Training in Ottawa? I've heard good things about Upward Dog. What about Santosha? I'm looking for something more athletic-minded as well and new-age'y' haha if that makes sense! Thanks.

JLA! There are so many great studios in Ottawa. I recommend Rama Lotus http://www.ottawayoga.com/doc.php?skw-mcs=training
or Adishesha http://www.adishesha.com/doc.php?sid=6
You might want to attend a yoga class that the trainers teach to see if you like their energy.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks! So I guess they're all good? I have been to Rama, good studio, but I've heard good things about Upper as well...hmmm. I'm confused. I guess I should check them all out. But I'm not sure if I'll still be able to decide. Are they equally good? What are your opinions on Upward Dog if you don't mind? Thank you again!

Honestly, I did my Hatha training at Upward Dog and as much as I love the centre and the teachers I wish I would have taken it at Rama Lotus because their program covers a lot more and prepare you better.

Oh and Rama is also the only centre in Ottawa the government recognizes for continuing education. This means you can claim the tuition on your taxes.

My journey with yoga is to attend Omega Inst. or Kripula
