I have the same problem when traveling. Bananas and energy bars get kind of old. The smoothies don't seem to keep very well. I made a V8 kind of smoothie which was great immediately, but the leftover turned out to be acid forming after being refrigerated. Can you bring a blender to work and make them fresh? The chile turned out to be alkaline forming - maybe due to all the peppers. Maybe you could take that.

Hi all - It's been a while since anyone has posted.  I've been pretty busy with work school and training.  I am a competitive race walker and as such burn off a lot of calories.  I bought some frozen soft pretzels and found that they are a quick snack - I can put them in the toaster at work.  I also got a shaker cup that is designed for mixing protein and liquid.  It works great to keep a smoothie until later in the day when I need a little boost.  Has anyone else come up with interesting ways to get good quality calories?

I haven't found anything interesting, but have been doing urine checks to see what is really alkaline and acid in my body. I found that fresh fruit is not alkaline in my body unless I eat/drink it all by itself in the morning and not eat anything else for at least 1/2 hr. Brennan's energy bars are only alkaline if I make them out of raisins, almonds, ground sesame and quinoa. I pretty much have to stick to fresh veggies. almonds, quinoa, dates, raisins and cooked beans. I jog and do strength training every other day only if maintaining my weight.

My lettuce atcually survived the winter and I am now harvesting.   It seems to taste much better when I have grown it myself.  :-)

I have an 8x8 raised bed for carrots and greens, but it just sits there in winter and then goes crazy in spring. I'm sure what we grow ourselves has more vitamins than the trucked in veggies.

I will have to stick with my Costco almonds but this is a visual for making almond milk.

I found that sleep makes a lot of difference. If I'm not getting enough sleep as in hot summer nights, I have trouble maintaining weight.  In winter it's easier.

Karen - I hadn't thought about the amount of sleep but now that I think about it, the body repairs itself while we are sleeping so I guess it could be building muscle.
