new runner :>) I'm slowly converting to 100% raw. I am obtaining books, dvd's, and reading carefully about raw diet and running. I have a long hx of overweight (40# and up) at intermitent times and miss running. I have always loved to run, and I got a nice start last night. Would love to check in with this group and receive/offer support.

Starting a fast for detox and weight loss... i am doing a lot of reading and will eventually go 100 % raw, and learn about distance running. very excited for my goals. Will probably listen to suggestion and juice at work and water fast on the weekend.

Aloha! I am a just getting back into running after a long illness. I over did it and gave myself stress fractures on the top of my foot. I can't tie my shoes all the way. Any idea how long this takes to heal? Anything I can add to my smoothies to aid in the process?

a stress fracture I believe can take on average about 3 weeks to heal, so a good idea would be to cross train until that time to maintain fitness. Then start alternating usual running days with low impact cross training (elipticle is great cause it mimics runnign form) so run/cross train/run etc.
I'm no expert/veteran by any means cause I'm just getting into this! But as far as I know hemp seeds/hemp protein powder and ground flax seed are great for adding to shakes because of their balance of omega 3/6 fatty acids and amino acid profiles

Great, I'm already adding more hemp seeds to my diet. Three weeks huh? Bummer. I will give the cross training a shot. Thanks for the advice Brendon!

Timster,
Way to go. I look forward to hearing about your journey. I found that running in races a great motivator to keep my focus. I did the Sea wall run on Saturday and had the best time all summer. Best of luck

Hi Rebekah,
I've run in five fingers for about a year now. I use them once a week on my easy runs and i use them for all my strength training. You have to gradually build mileage in them and the first few times you run your calves may burn (read will burn). Be careful with the sizing since even using the online chart i had to downsize further and also be careful using them on a treadmill. The one time i used them on a treadmill my front toe pinched and i got a pretty bad bruise..maybe that was just me though. Overall I'm happy with them and they're really easy to clean too! Hope that helps feel free to ask anything else I'm sure others use them too. Have you tried the Nike frees?

Hi Rebekah,
I run in Vibrams exclusively now... It was definitely a process and you do need to start out slowly and build gradually. You will have aches and pains as you get started... I started a topic in the main forum I think called Any Barefoot Runners out there... I'll try and post a link for you....
