John, sounds like you're living the like. If you find you're having troubles getting enough calories I'd be more than happy to give you some tips from experience...although I'm sure you've already got plenty of good ideas on your own :)

That would be great Sarah, as it is very difficult at time to be 100% Raw here in the Bow Valley - I am a destination photographer and outside of Nutters its pretty much a twice a month commute into Calgary to get my produce.
Saw your Videos - there great! However I still need to become more organize. since going Vegan I drop from 185 to 172 in about a month and all of it is fat with no muscle loss.
My problem is out side from grilling and all of my great italian dishes I am pretty much all thumbs in the Kitchen - The creativity that goes into being a full time Photographer, Elopement and Wedding Planner and Web Developer leaves me pretty much spent in the kitchen - Currently I pretty much wash and eat my food.

Every trip into Costco I notice that there is always something ne that is certified organic! So the demand is increasing!

Cheers,

j

Hey ara, those pasta videos were awesome I've been making the zuchinni past by hand with a simple peeler. Doesn't come out great that way. Gonna go get one of those spiral slicer. Looks really cool. thanks again.

Hey Sarah, Just weighed in @ 170!
This is almost a 10 year all time low! Seems to be all the weight is coming off the mid section... as the shoulders and triceps are still in good shape - the constant use of a 14 pound camera really defines these muscles... I might post a workout video I just filmed using 5 pound weights with no shirt, wearing my old jeans that really shows how much the body has trimmed up after getting back on the VEGA Train back in mid April! I was almost 220!

I think it depends on when you do your workouts. When I'm teaching a 9am class, I usually have either a protein shake (sometimes put a little fruit in the blender) or a protein bar. Anything more makes me nauseaus.
When I'm teachining a class later in the day, I make sure I've had something substantial about 1 1/2 hrs prior...maybe veggie wrap, a big salad, or even oatmeal. It's important to have a protein and carb within an hour after your workout to repair muscle tissue and replace gycogen stores.

Hey everyone--just wanted to introduce myself. I am training for a 1/2 marathon in March 2010 & trying to learn about the nutritional aspect of my training.

So I'm getting serious about my training for my half marathon. I've been talking with a few different trainers, just to expore the idea of having a trainer support me in the process. As far as my diet is concerned, I know I will have to have more calories because I'll be training pretty hard. However, I'm not pleased with any of the trainers so far that I've talked to, because they are concerned that I want to use a veg approach. My plan is to really utilize my resources here and what other raw food & vegan athletes have done to educate myself & my trainer on how to do a marathon vegan! Because I know it can be done!

Hi Rachel,
I did a 1/2 marathon (which was my first and only one) 2 years ago before I was vegetarian/vegan, so I normally ate a lot of protein with low fat at the time. I remember having a natural need for more Carbs...oatmeal, some wheat pasta, potatoes, but maybe just 1 or 2 servings more (since my diet was low carb).
Since you'll probably be running on avg. 5-8 miles you will need probably an extra 300-400 good calaries. But make sure you getting plenty of protein because a lot of running tends to eat away your muscle if you're not doing enough weight training and getting enough protein. It depends on your weight, but you probably need at least 45 grams of protein. You can go to google to look it up. Good Luck!!!
