This group is a great and timely initiative, given the growing obesity epidemic that's occurring almost everywhere.

Hey gang!! Been a while eh! So for the past 6 months I've been working hard physically on the job and I've been running, cycling, did some kickboxing, and most recently started weight lifting again. I've adjusted my eating by increasing my protein intake to help support and build and maintain muscle gain and repair. If you check out my latest pics you can tell how much I've cut up.

I've gone from L-XL size shirts to M-L. My waist has gone from a 32 to a 30-31 (depending on the brand). That's all cool but, my issue is with my glutes. Yeah, my glutes LOL! I'm not a flat butt, simply, I want to increase them so I don't have to feel my pants slip down every time I pick up or move something at work. Yes, I could sinch my belt tighter, but there is a limit to how tight is too much you know.

I know I can do squats, lunges, deadlifts. I need to know if there are more targeting exercises to help thicken and round out my glutes?

Thx

Jack squats are effective with proper form of going straight up and down, while the rear leg supported up on a bench. also can use a balance ball - lie face up with feet together on ball, bridge up, and roll ball out with heels while keeping bridge high and tight.  advanced move is with one leg straight up, alternating

Hi, All,

I'm new here, but it looks like a cool group.  I was really into bodybuilding/strength training up until a couple of years ago when I developed some really ugly tendonitis and couldn't do much of anything.  After a year of being off, working out wasn't much fun anymore, but now I am determined to get back into it and lose the pounds I've packed on from sitting on my butt.

I just found the Vega Community and found this group. I LOVE lifting weights along with cycling and running. I'm in the prime of life (52) and never felt better. I've been following the vegan diet since March of 2011. In the summer of 2010 I tried the high animal protein diet and felt like I was so overloaded with protein that I totally gave up meat. Glad I did! I've never felt better!

former cubicle/couch potato turnin' 50 and in the best shape of my life - 3 years now losing 70 pounds of fat and yuck from my body - this past year has been challenging - i ventured into the free weight room in my middle aged 6'2" 160lb frame and made my mark among the muscle head carnivores!  starting bodybuilding at 50 while maintaining a whole and raw foods diet is quite the challenge but at 170 lbs and 10% body fat I've seen some results! It is tough draggin my butt out of bed and to get to the Y by 6AM - energy and focus are truly a challenge during that hour when my body says "go back to bed" "sleeeeeeep!"  I look forward to reading and discovering things here - and maybe even finding some comrades in arms!  Namaste!

Currently involved in a program called Turbulence Training by Craig Ballantyne. Eating a strong plantbased diet, I have been very religous my with my efforts and I am looking for some advice. I currently weigh 205 and I am 5'7. I started out at 235 at the end of October. I don't injest super amounts of protein and I eat clean. I use the whole food meal replacement for breakfast and the sports recovery and protein after Good workouts. It looks like I'm my muscle mass is shrinking. I eat 6-7 times a day and I'm getting worried or dicouraged about my current progress. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello group. I was just wondering you take on Creatine as a supplement. I have heard both sides but would like your thoughts on it.

Comment by Karen Lemburg on March 12, 2012 at 6:33am

I tried creatine for a while and didn't see a difference. I'm on a program of lifting heavier to build muscle. Also burning off the last bit of fat in order to see my sixpack abs! It's been 7 weeks and I've gained 1 1/2 lbs of lean body mass and lost 3 pounds of fat. The scale has gone down 1 1/2 pounds. I believe in a plant based diet and KNOW that you can build muscle on it. I've increased the protein by adding a couple of protein shakes to my daily meal plan. I also add vanilla to my oatmeal on weight training days. The other thing I've done is to increase fats on cardio days. I've cut way back on supplements due to the fact that if you eat whole living foods, I just don't think your body needs them. I do add chlorella, spirulina, maca, bee pollen, dulce, and twelve other superfood ingredients to SuperFood balls that I make. Instant energy! I put the recipe up on my website: CommuningWithGod.org under the forums tab
