hey guys! i've baked/shopped GF for my celiac sister for years, but just am starting a GF "test-drive" for myself. anyone have any thoughts/advice for me?

i find GF pretty easy (at home) because of my sister - everything we buy except for whole wheat bread and cereal is GF.

thoughts from my experts? :)

We own a bistro and make gluten free baked goods. I will see if my mom will give me our recipe. We use a lot of whole grain gluten free flours that are higher in fiber and protein. There is a need for a little bit of the starchy refined gluten free flours but the stuff in the store has no nutrition. It is cheaper to make for these manufacturers by usines starchy "white"gluten free flours. I will get back to you!

Joining the group because one of my nephews suffers from CD.
My wife and I are doing the whole "test kitchen" thing with trying to put together a "wedding" cake for my inlaws' 50th anniversary that everyone can enjoy, including all the gluten-free folks in the family as well as this little guy... AND the rest of the folks who don't have any dietary restrictions, but we want to wow with the cake and change their mind regarding GF foods...

Any suggestions? So far we've been working with coconut flour (which was really good) and almond flour (also pretty good - needs a little something for the next try...)

We're really trying go for something that will not be a "restricted diet" type of cake. All suggestions are appreciated.

We're also considering making these as cupcakes and maybe a sheet-cake for the lovebirds... so if that makes it any easier, we are ok with that as well.

Midnight Lifter ....I'd recommend prep/cooking etc be done where the meals for your nephew are cooked .....I read on one CD site that anything in contact with gluton needs to be decontaminated essentially. .....Best of luck, and congrats to your in-laws on a remarkable accomplishment

Midnight Lifter - try the BabyCakes cookbook. they have many recipes for cupcakes that could be used in a layer cake!

and i second what 4_lifepath said. celiacs must ALWAYS use GF bakeware. good luck to you!

The Silly Yak has some great breads that they will ship. They are local for me. I have found that any GF bread tastes better toasted until browned. ~Namaste

Just joined this community and found this gluten free group. I've been gluten free for over 10 years now. I feel great and have been headache free for years. I can tolerate spelt, but don't eat breads or bread products too often. I'm looking forward to hearing about great gluten free recipes and to eating a cleaner more raw plant based high nutrient dense diet.
