Is VFF running realy barefoot? 3 Replies

Ok, I figure that a community of open minded Vega consumers will be tolerant of my asking this question...should running in VFF's *really* be called barefoot running?  Minimalist, or zero drop, shoes…Continue

FOREFOOT RUNNING DIARIES 4 Replies

Based on my research I myself am decidedly in the "forefoot/midfoot" running camp. The area continues to be hotly debated, however, biomechanically, as well evolutionarily, our feet and lower…Continue

I always go running in my VFFs, occasionally full barefoot. Love it. Been doing it for about 8 months now and ran two races with them. You get a lot of strange looks and Qs asked :-) But I love them...

VFF's are great. My wife also likes the Nike frees. Both contributed to our chirunning development. It takes time to work into it though.

I've been using cross-country shoes. I can't get a pair of VFF in the right size - they just don't fit my feet.

jen - try some flexible racing flats, too. they're awesome for protection... or nike frees like keith said. they're my favorite and fit my freak foot!

I needed to take 6 weeks off from running due to an injury. Once I was able to return, I thought it might be the best opportunity I would have to try to transition into BR. So I bought a pair of Nike Free Run +, slowed my pace down to 6-6.5 mph from 7.5-8.5 mph for my 5 mile runs and I shortened my stride. (I treadmill only) I'm entering my 3rd week now and so far, so good. In fact, the morning after my runs I have ZERO pain in my right achilles. I had been in Brooks Adrenalines previously. Maybe someday VFF.

Kathleen, congrats! Similar to my story where an injury prompted a change. Good luck keeping it going. The Frees are great!

Hi, I am a newb runner. Started jogging January'10 to train for the Sun Run 10k, if it wasn't for InTraining clinic I'm not sure that I would have gotten hooked on running as I never used to like running. I loathed it. I love it now! It's so energizing! But that came to a screeching halt soon after the Sun Run as my Plantar fasciitis flared up big time. I probably shouldn't have even done the Sun Run, but as a newb I was determined to finish regardless of the cost. Anyhow I did a lot of research and was almost going to go to a podiatrist.. then I found the book Born To Run. It all made sense to me, but I don't like the idea of being completely bare foot living in a city. So I got a pair of VFF Bikila's and haven't looked back. I still have mild PF but it has improved 100% since I had two intense massage therapy sessions to work out the knots in my foot. So if any of you have PF, first get your feet out of arch support shoes and start strengthening your foot (go barefoot around the house, wear VFF's on casual walks to work up your strength), and invest in some massage therapy sessions with someone you know is good and has experience with PF. I'm also using "the stick" and the foam roller to keep my leg muscles from tightening (which in turn pulls on the fascia).
It's only been two weeks, hoping the PF doesn't return with a vengeance.

Hello, I now run exclusively with the VFF, with an average of 60/90km per week. Already ran a 36km trail in them.... a great experience but I'm eager for the NB Minimus coming out next year as barefoot running in difficult trails can be painful :-)

For any barefoot runners nursing injuries along out there check out Kinesio Tape - I was able to train and race through significant PF with teh right tape, while at the same time getting great tissue treatment and now 4 weeks prior to my 50k race I'm PF free without missing a training week!

Hello, I’m dealing with some pretty bad PF myself right now and was hoping I could get a bit of help. Jeannine I have the foam roller but have never heard of the “The Stick” before?!?! And Aleksandar where do you get your kinesio tape and how do you know the right way to tape up your foot. I tried hockey tape once but the glue irritates my skin and I don’t think I’m doing it right.
