Which meal from the meal plan should I eat when for workouts?

I saw a comment to another post by Suzie Senk which hasn't been answered yet (perhaps because it is a comment rather than a discussion and so hasn't been seen.) Anyway, I thought there might be quite a few people in the same situation so I created this discussion. The post said as follows:

"Brendan's meal suggestions in the book do not factor in workouts, or pre-post recovery meals, yet he stresses this throughout the book. Could someone familiar with the book please clarify?"

I'm also a little unsure about which meal (burger, pizza, salad, soup etc) to eat when.

For example, I had the recovery drink last night after my workout, then the chocolate almond smoothie which was delicious - but by then it was pretty late and I didn't eat anything else before bed. Is that enough to keep my body going throughout the night after a hard weights session? Should I have had a burger? :) (in which case I'd probably be better working out in the morning so that I don't eat too late at night).

Very good question but unfortunately one that doesn't have a straightforward answer because everyone's schedule is different. I know Brendan does his workouts in the morning so he has a pre-workout snack, a post-workout smoothie within 45 minutes and then a nutrient-dense post workout meal about an hour after the smoothie. But this all changes when your workouts are done at night possibly after dinner.

In Thrive, Brendan devotes a section about what to eat before, during and after exercise. In the Canadian version, The Thrive Diet, the section is titled "Exercise for Lifelong Health" and is on page 108-121. The text is the same in the US version but may be found on a different page.
