Hi Betsy, thanks for the post on my page. I know you might want to wait until other players out there start signing up, but in the meantime I would love to talk training and nutrition. I played university ball, then beach for a bit but wasn't very good as I hadn't made the transition to outdoors seriously. I then took a hiatus and returned to the beach 3 summers ago, with last summer being an excellent year. First tourney is in less than 2 weeks and I want to make sure I have my meal plan ready for the day. Last year I experimented a little too much at the wrong time and basically ended up flushing all my electrolytes out by drinking too much water and not enough of anything else... I cramped and my performance completely tanked.

How do you prep for long days of playing? I have found if I do a good sized shake early in the morning and some almond butter, then some fruit and a shake with "Achiva" and chocolate almond milk (Mum's new brand of hemp and rice protein powder... a little easier on the stomach than Vega and good for round #2) I have had a lot of energy. The problem is the rest of the day... I still don't know how much I should be eating of what, and I consider myself fairly educated with nutrition.

Anyway sorry this is so long, but any suggestions/ thoughts would be great!

How is your season going? I always wish I played pro indoor... passed on too many opportunities.

Hey Christine! I don't have a lot of beach experience and it has been a long time since I've played an all day tournament (I did play a grass tournament last weekend, but it wasn't very intense). When I do play tournaments, I like to have a green smoothie in the morning (without Vega...I usually use Vega after workouts). Then I mostly graze on fruit throughout the day. Bananas, dates, apples. I have no idea if this is the best method or not, but I don't normally have problems with cramping or feeling tired unless I didn't sleep enough the night before. I don't like to have a lot of protein while playing. I feel like it takes too much energy to digest it.

Do you travel a lot to play beach or do you play mostly local tournaments?

My season finished at the end of April...wasn't the best season I've had and I'm looking for a new team for the next season. I can resign with the same team if I want to, but I'm waiting to see what other options I have.

It's never too late to play pro indoor if you still want to! :) Which university did you play for? I'll be back in the states this summer (Michigan) and hoping to play some beach, but I don't know many people who play there unfortunately.

Keep me posted on your upcoming tournament and what you decide to do for your meal plan!

So, it's back to the indoor courts. I'm playing for the same team as last season in Lyon, France. Our first match is this coming Sunday. Anybody else playing indoors this season? Thoughts on transitioning from the beach game back to indoors?
