Vitamin Supplements while using Vega Complete Whole Food Health Optimizer

Hi Guys,
I've got a question about whether additional supplements are needed when using the WFHO in a daily breakfast smoothie. Obviously, it does contain all of the required daily nutrients but as a vegan so I use the Wonder Labs sub-lingual B complex tablets. However, as an individual who runs twice a week and does circuit training 3 days a week, I wonder if my needs may be greater than the average person.  After my workouts, I use the Vega Sport Performance Protein and I question whether I should take any additional vitamins at this time. I've read both of the Thrive books and I have completed the Thrive in 30 so I may be getting everything I need without the supplements. I really could use your advice on what I should do.

thanks in advance,
Glen G

No takers... come on. Somebody's got to have an opinion. Hit me...

If your competing at a high level and are worried about B12 levels then maybe you could take the supplement if you wanted to. If your eating Vega and lots of nutritious foods and your diet has lots of fruits and vegetables in it than I would say that supplements are not needed and most definitely not optimal. Just my two cents.
Hey Carl,
I appreciate your help. That's what I was thinking. I've been moving to more raw food too so I'm sure more of the nutrition is intact. The additional vitamins seemed superfluous but I just wanted a reality check. This sure will save me money as well. Talk about p****** your money away... literally.

big thanks,
Glen G
this is the most comprehensive site i've found on the issue of b12 http://www.veganhealth.org/b12/
I personally take b12 daily (in a lozenge or sublingual form). you can have your level checked at the doctors.
Hey, Glen. This is actually a really good question. I think that the goal of getting all the nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) our bodies need through whole foods is an excellent one. Vega WFHO is a fabulous help in achieving that, as is eating the way Brendan recommends.

I have a thought that some of us may very well need additional supplements though, at least for some period of time, depending on how we've eaten most of our lives. For instance, if we've been eating the SAD (standard American diet) for years or decades, then the odds are we've robbed our bones of the calcium they need in an effort to alkalize our bodies. You can get all your daily requirements for calcium by eating the way Brendan talks suggests in Thrive, but can you get enough to undo the damage that you've already done???
Here's another instance, where supplementation might be helpful. What is someone is working to clean up their diet now, but has significant plaque build up in their arteries. Perhaps taking some trans-resveratrol would be helpful for them.
And there are, no doubt, other instances where people have a particular health challenge, where additional supplements might be merited.

Then you have some people (the Bio Titan comes to mind, though I hope I'm not misrepresenting him), who believe that the RDA and even the RDI are both low and that the levels we can take (should take) are actually much higher.

Well, Glen, I don't know how helpful this is, but I hope it's "food" for thought.

Anyone else have thoughts on this??
Hey Myrtle and Ann,
I truly appreciate your feedback. Currently, I've decided on WFHO once a day along with B12 and the Deva Joint Complex 3 times a day. This seems to be working to keep me healthy; however, I am curious to see if I can gain the 10 pounds I'd like to put on using this configuration. We shall see. As mentioned in a previous thread, I've been a vegan for 18 years so I may not have that much damage to repair but you never know... although vegan, a lot of my food was pre-packaged junk. No more, it's fresh or nothing at all these days. Long live the green!

thanks,
Glen
Hi Valerie,
I'd be glad to assist. Without plugging my own website, I have created a website that has all of this information. You can find it at:

www.vegetarianbirmingham.org

There are tabs for Internet resources for food, clothing and vitamins as we as restaurant reviews, etc for the Birmingham Alabama area. It's just my way of giving back to the community without judging people for their lifestyle choices even if I may disagree with those choices.

I hope that this is a good start for you. If you have any questions, just holla.

Take care,
Glen
