VSPP is promoted saying, "Mix with water and make it part of your post-workout routine." I've been trying out several VEGA products, and started including VSPP as an after workout drink and have noticed improvement in how I feel the next day after an intense aerobic workout.

Problem is, I just experienced a rather painful bout with gout (pardon the rhyme), or arthritis which is not typical. It was a painful two days. My eating generally follows the RAVE diet which is plant based and low in oils. It is hard to get enough calories and good protein on such a diet which is the reason for experimenting with supplements.

There have been several posts by individuals recommending after workout supplements to have a 4:1 carb to protein ratio. VSPP has a 4:1 ratio, but it is protein to carb. I suspect that ingestion of high protein sparked the joint pain in the knuckles of my hand. Has anyone else had this problem?

If a 4:1 ratio carb to protein after-workout recovery drink is recommended, what are the rest of you adding to your VSPP to achieve the proper carb to protein ratio?

low oils, does that mean youre not getting enough fat in your diet? would that not have an effect on your joints ( and pretty much most body functions; eg: vitamin absorbtion)

maybe start taking efa oil.

as far as carbs... i love how brendan recommends dates... theyre easy to stick in little bags and eat before/after working out. simple carbs right there.

now I have a question if anyone can clarify. most people say that simple carbs are BAD CARBS. that we need to eat more complex carbs... alot of people have a high concern on sugar these days it seems... no sugar at all... i understand if youre hypo glycemic or diabetic... but what if there are no problems...? some people dont eat any fruit because it has 'sugar' in it.

also bodybuilders always get some kind of sugar in after their workout to 'spike' their insulin levels... i have not researched alot about this and wonder why they do it? is it good for you? bad for you ? if anyone knows anything about that i'd love to hear~!
I get oils from a variety of natural sources and will not use butter/margarine spreads or pour oil from a bottle for cooking or use oil in salads. I get 10-12 percent fat/oil in the daily meals.

The joint pain I had was localized to one hand and was rare. Just before this joint pain occurred, I had started adding WFHO and VSPP as after workout supplementation. WFHO is high in protein (1:1 protein/carb), and VSPP is very high in protein (4:1 protein/carb). The resulting combination put the intake at a ratio of about 18% Fat, 30% Carb, and 52% Protein - way high in protein. I've read where undigested proteins can "leak" through the intestines into the body causing an immune response leading to an attack of the joints. Normally I get about 75% carbs/15% protein, so I suspect that high protein supplementation without meals doesn't work well with my body.

Looks like the only way to verify that is to try VSPP and WFHO again and see if it causes another joint reaction. If it does, I'll try mixing the supplements into some juices in such a way to get the protein/carb ratio down to about 4:1 carbs to protein.
