Any reports of intestinal issues (a lot of gas) about two hours after drinking a chocolat shake?

Hi Gman, it's not uncommon for Vega newbies to experience some digestive side effects as it is likely a sign of cleansing. Vega is rich in fibre (60% of RDI) and also contains 2.5g of ChlorEssence which is very cleansing and detoxifying. Try starting off with a small amount (1/2 a scoop) and gradually increasing to a full serving over a period of time that makes it more comfortable for you (1-2 weeks). That should help with a smoother transition. Chocolate is my favourite flavour too - try it blended in a smoothie with bananas, frozen blueberries, a tablespoon of almond butter and hemp/rice/almond milk - yum!
OK Charles, Thanks for the tips and I will try what you said. I wasn't sure if there was something in it that was causing it as some protein shakes do the same thing to me.

Yeesh, GAS - that's what prompted me to find this discussion. I've been having half a serving once daily starting about 5 days ago, and good lord, my guts are in turmoil! The Thrive diet isn't a very big change for me as I've been primarily raw Vegan for a while, vegetarian before that for years. I was up all night passing gas, and not to be indelicate but my bowel movements are bizarre. Please tell me this is normal! I don't think I can handle walking around looking like I'm 6 months pregnant all the time.
Hey Sheila!

When I first started at Sequel I was having Vega shakes every single day at work and it left me feeling really full and bloated.. . Not sure how you make your Vega, but I blended it with frozen fruit and banana, which is already filling on it's own! If you are doing the same thing, try lessening the ingredients like adding just ice & rice milk, it may alleviate the symptoms, but like Charles said, it does take some time for your body to get used to it. I've been taking it almost every day since I started here 4 months ago and my body digests it like a normal drink now!
Hi shelia,

I too had the same issue when i first starting taking it, now i am gas free, but i also supplemented when i first started on it, with a good probiotic. anytime you are switching what proteins your body takes you are likely to get gas. it takes time to build the enzymes required to do it well. so expect not only gas, but decresed transit times for stool...

Now when I have a shake the side effects are minimal. :)
I find it helps alot to drink Vega more slowly ie swish it in your mouth first, and let the digestive enzymes in your mouth go to work on it. Chugging a shake down quickly will add to the gaseous emissions levels for sure.
I agree with the bloatedness and in my experience - it is from your digestive system not used to a lot of fiber. In time, eating a lot of fiber every day most likely will help because the digestive systems gets use to it.

There's a lot of fiber in the vega products which is great as it cleans out toxic stuff our of your system and keeps you full.

Stick with it for a while...
