share. learn. thrive!

Since last Spring I have been making changes in our eating...I have a husband and 4 children. I don't want them to grow up the same way I did, so I am trying to give them healthier options. Luckily my kids love veggies and fruit.

Since last spring my kids have done so well adapting to change, I have lost 52 lbs since then but find that I am stuck now. I have another 40 -50 to go still and I am wanting to start eating less animal protein and foods that contain gluten to see if that kick starts me again.

My Naturopath started me on an elimination diet last spring which is what started this whole journey for me, I felt the best I had ever felt doing that elimination diet, but it didn't seem like something you could continue to do. I discovered alot of foods that bother me. Dairy, gluten, wheat, red meat and processed foods in general have ill effects on my system.

Any suggestions on how to cut out these things without feeling deprived? I love chicken and certain fish, I could easily do without red meat! Is it ok to have chicken or fish once in a while.

If anyone has some suggestions for me that would be great!

I have the Vega smoothie and just purchased the chocolate Vega WFHO.

Melanie,
I would suggest that you sign up for Brendan's Thrive in 30 program. It has lessons about nutrition and how it's related to stress and health. It's based on his book, Thrive, if you seen it mentioned before.

My other big suggestion would be to focus on adding, rather than subtracting foods. for example, have a big salad with dinner. Once you've eaten it, you'll have had a big dose of nutrients and liken won't feel like eating your usual supper of maybe you'll just have less. If you focus on negative - in order words, I "can't" eat that - we end up feeling deprived. By focusing on adding in healthier choices, you end up feeling positive about the changes you're making and have less room for the poor food choices.

Good luck! And please let me know if I can help you find any other info.

Thanks...I did sign up for the lessons. I am on lesson 5 now. I knew most of those things so far...I am on an adaptogen to help with my adrenal stress. I was doing just find not eating refined sugars and chocolate bars etc and then Xmas hit, now I feel like I am addicted to it again! It is amazing what those foods do to your system!
My only issue wih salads is finding a salad dressing....I can't eat the ones from the store so I am making on with Olive oil, a little vinegar and garlic....but you get sick of the same thing.
Another question...the whole food vibrancy bars...I have tried the chocolate one and really like it...would that be considered a snack or meal?
Thanks for your help

That's great! Yes, the vibrancy bars are intended as a snack.

For salad dressings, there are a bunch of good recipes in Thrive that you could use to mix it up. Try experimenting by adding different ingredients to your dressing. Like ginger and sesame oil ... or tahini or stone ground mustard. Salads can get kind of old if you don't change it up regularly!
