share. learn. thrive!

I've been taking vega whole food for almost a full large container now. I think I'm 2 days away from done. As expected I had some side effects when I first started but they are all gone. The thing that is bothering me is I'm not really noticing any great energy boost or change in my life. I could be wrong but I think I feel the same as before.

I've heard that the body needs a good cleanse in order to start receiving nutrients properly. Is this true? I've always thought that while that could be true its probably just as good to eat healthy all the time and eventually your body will start adapting. but who knows.

Bit of background: I wouldn't say I'm a "heathy" eater but Im far from bad. I do eat out a fair but but my meals at home usually involve quinoa, chicken, salads(nuts, avacado etc etc), brown rice, whole grain pasta etc. I also exercise a fair bit and only recently am getting back into making cardio a priority as I start training for some possible marathons this summer.

Thoughts?

Well when I started taking vega my diet was already really clean so i didnt really notice a whole lot of side effects but I kept it in my diet I usually only take it after I do a workout and after a while I started feeling amazing.I really like taking it with a banana and frozen blueberries (ive also got the berry flavor) and I think I feel the best when im taking it like that so if your just taking it by itself try making a smoothie with it well hope this helps bye.

hmm. thanks for the reply. I basically take it first thing in the morning. 2 scoops with water. thats about it. I have the chai vanilla one. not sure if that will taste right with a banana and blueberries. I could try though...

after workouts I usually just take a scoop of a protein isolate called isoflex. I figured vega is more of a morning thing because it gives you your days worth of vitamins and minerals. I do not take any vitamins other then that. I also don't workout every day so taking vega only on workout days might be inconsistent. I don't know if thats good? Also I feel like taking it at a consstent time of day everyday is a good thing. thoughts?

Sometimes I also throw in another shake an hour or so after the workout. Wont talk about it here because its definitely not vegan. :) don't do that to much though. Mostly for weight gain.

I workout everyday but sunday so im taking it everyday and the only time I have it for breakfast is on a day off.Its good that your taking it in the morning when you wake up your body is usually starving for nutrients thats from what ive read and what I believe is the most important meal of the day but I take it after I work out because it helps me recover faster than anything ive ever had before and the faster you recover the faster you will improve if you havent already I would read both of brendans books the thrive diet and thrive fitness you cant go wrong with them but another thing to add I dont take the 2 scoops either just one scoop I dont even think brendan takes 2 scoops at once I dont believe that anyone needs the 2 scoops at once if your diet is already nutrient rich but when im in hard preseason and in season training for motocross I will take vega twice a day but one scoop at a time because im doing more than one workout but you will be fine taking the 2 scoops everymorning well I hope I helped any haha.

Hey Dominic,

Regarding your cleanse statement (or question?) I'm somewhat opposed to cleanses. I think your diet and lifestyle should be a cleanse in itself...so, slowly changing your diet to more vegan/raw foods and eating things like the WFO is a good way to go... as you alluded to... No need to do something drastic

Regarding not noticing an energy boost/change in your life.
First of all, it might be because you're still transitioning into new things..like working out again, eating better., etc and it'll take time. Second, the fact that you're eating out a fair bit, and from teh sounds of it, still eating animal products may be hindering your energy levels a bit too.

Also, the WFO is energy boosting, but not stimulating say the way a cup of coffee would be. I've gotten used to my increased energy levels and now notice Vega when I dont' take it...So, theres a chance you've slowly gotten better/ are slowly gettign better, just haven't realized it.

I agree with splitting the 2 scoops, to once per 'time', so maybe AM and PM/afternoon.

Dominic,

This is a very good topic for discusion and only you can answer it! Evaluate your life from about your mid-teens to present and consider honestly your level of exposure to food born and environmental toxins. This list is far to long to make here but think of things like how much processed packaged foods you've eaten compared to fresh clean produce. I known when I was a teen I was a trash compactor, All my food was processed and packaged with chemicals I couldn't pronounce (and I aced chem). Then what kind of work are you in? What have you been exposed to for eight hours a day 5 days a week? Have you drank Chlorinated/Flourodated water all your life? What materials do you cloth yourself in? what materials are in your home? Modern carpet can off-gas known carcinogens for up to 20 years and Health Canada will tell you carpet is a biohazard after seven years.

Your skin will absorb as much toxins from your environment as your lungs and GI tract. It's a shame the word cleanse can scare some people...being oppossed to cleansing is like being opposed to bathing! Cleansing shouldn't conjure images of starving to death on a glass of water and a teaspoon of lemon juice. A proper cleanse is simply bathing at the cellular level.

Before I discovered Vega I read an amazing book: The New Detox Diet by Elson M. Haas, M.D. 'The Detox Doc'; it discusses all forms of cleansing methods and the differences between modern life and that of the agricultural based society we once were. It becomes clear why we need periodic cleansing and the Detox Doc is a realist, not impractical methods that can be dangerous. For example I believe in the 12/12 system: eat 12 hours a day then Fast 12 hours per day...If breakfast is at 7am then your last meal should be at 7pm. This in itself is a type of cleanse that promotes better liver health and maximizes overnight detoxification and tissue repair.

I started taking Vega WFHO months before I finally bought Brendans' books Thrive and Thrive Fitness ( Both are MUST reads). I already cleaned my diet up alot before this but I am using the twelve week meal plan as my "Recalibration" and this would be a more than adequate cleansing program. Try the 'recalibration', if you were a concious eatter already, it would be a cinch for you and YOU WILL notice a difference!

Thrive isn't just for high performance athletes, it's for high performance living!
