how do you deal with them?

Generally I eat extremely healthy... but sometimes out of nowhere I will get these overwhelming cravings for the worst foods... soda... french fries... doritos... ice cream! Although I'm a believer of "everything in moderation", and am not the type to freak out if I do indulge, I would just rather not have the desire to eat junk food in the first place. :) I'm curious to know how you guys and gals deal with such cravings... :)

I have a cheat day - one day a week to have what ever I want - those cravings dont go away completly, but I found this method to work! I hope I have helped a little - also, sometimes when we crave things it may be because we are lacking it. Take a look at your intake of food - maybe you are deficient in calcuim or other things, and also - fats are good for you, too - just depends on what kind of fats. Its ok to have a treat every now and then, too - keep healthy - healthy meaning that we dont deprive of the fun things in life. All work and no play...

Be well!

I would take a look at what's going on. Sometimes I have cravings because I'm bored or sometimes it's stress or sometimes they just happen. I try to take a moment and recognize that it's just a craving and maybe I need to focus on something else. That could be a walk or changing activities so I'm not focused on bad food. But every once in a while, a girl needs chocolate!
I agree with Kelly. I've found a certain pattern with my cravings (place, time of day, stress, etc.). I think I've conditioned myself (like Pavlov's dogs). Drinking water and going for a walk often helps. Anything to change the scenery. So does listening to some kinds of music.
P.S. Sometimes I look for healthy alternatives - ie. icecream: throw frozen bananas in a food processor and add carob / cocoa powder, vanilla, cinnamon, berries, whatever
Hi Kelli,

Vega Kelly and Frances are right on the money. I would also suggest looking to see if you are eating enough during the day. Adding a few extra calories in the form of raw vegetables and healthy fats may make all the difference for you. I know it has for me when I compete or prepare for photo shoots.

Sometimes I just wish Nestle had never made Coffee Crisp in the first place... :)

I find that I have cravings at that "time" of month. I love baking so if I'm going to have sugary sweets, atleast I know what's in it!! Last month I craved onion rings - something I really don't have often. I bought a bag from the supermarket and I guess that action was fulfilling on it's own because to date I still haven't opened it!
It is one of the things I deal with as well, for me I find it is cooked chips and thick white bread with butter. I allow myself to have it when the craving and situation occur because I know the discomfort I experience after it reinforces my ability to defer the next time.

But Kelly is right every once in a while, a BOY needs chocolate

At times my worst moments are from not feeling satisfied or feeling like I want..... something

If you can cut them out of your diet completely the cravings will eventually end, but as long as you still eat those foods even once in a while you will still have the cravings. Try healthy substitutes for sweets or fats, dates and nuts are really good, raw coconut butter mixed with raw cacoa powder and a little honey or agave and some shredded coconut makes a really good healthy fast dessert.
I second Aaron. Also, I know lots of people who swear that monomeals help (meal of one thing), because changing up tastes excites our taste buds (I go on sweet/salty TRIPS). Also, I find a green smoothie can really help me when I'm feeling cravings and am getting anxious about them!
I understand completely where you are coming from? I box and therefore I have to be very strict with my diet to maintain my weight. I have found that if you freeze bananas, use cacao powder and agave nectar you can make a pretty good ice cream that is good for you. An awesome replacement for french fries are french fries, just use sweet potatoes, they taste better than normal, use some garlic and a pinch of olive oil, spread that over them and you are good to go. I just stay away from anything liquid thats not water, I don't ever crave sodas. It is hard to not give in to the cravings but frozen bananas and sweet potato fries should help you a little bit. And also it isn't too bad if you give in to the cravings once a blue moon. I find that after I eat junk food I want to eat something healthy just because the way the junk food makes me feel. I think that eating junk food every now and then, in a way keeps you on track to eating healthy because you get to feel the difference in your body, Hope this helps.
For me cravings seem to happen when; I lack sleep, have not eaten enough protein or wholesome food (salads and fruit are good but they don't fill me up), have gone too long since my last meal, am stressed, or have been around people who have bad eating habits.
