I do enjoy a cup of java! I'm not hooked by any means as I can go days without it, but I enjoy the rich bold taste of a dark coffee with a touch of cream and palm sugar. The caffeine isn't an issue as I can drink decaf and still enjoy it, and i've even had late night coffee with no residual effect on sleep.

I've read much about the subject online and it seems to still be on the chopping board.

Is coffee good or bad for you? Is coffee considered a toxin? Does it inhibit your health gains other than acting as a diuretic? Or does it have hidden benefits still to be discovered.

Bottom line, I don't need it to survive like some folks do, but I enjoy a cup or 2 here and there during the week. I'd let go completely during a detox period of course, which makes total sense.

What is your take?

Thx
Rich

I've heard some good things about coffee in some studies, like antioxidants. Caffeine is a diuretic, but if you are enjoying decaf, that shouldn't be an issue, either. I, too, enjoy coffee. Dark, bold, but with nothing in it ;) But I also don't drink it everyday like I used to.
Hey Richard,

Well I LOVE my cup of dark coffee in the morning as well, but it is in my "bucket list" to ditch it. The problem with coffee is that it is extremmely acidic, and that compromises the balance of your body. It takes 16 to 18 glasses of water to neutralize the acidity in one cup of coffee!

I am not quite ready to give up my cup of java in the morning, but when I do, it will be replaced with green tea.

Most studies show it can be troubling in large amounts, but a small amount (1-2 cups) can increase mental alertness and improve athletic performance. I think it's more about limiting and less about cutting out. :)
I love the flavor of coffee and am fine drinking decaf as well. My question has always been: Is decaf also very acidic? Just curious.
I take it occasionally before training... otherwise... no... bad.. its still a stimulant..
Mmm yes, I believe those who say it is good for running/training is because they are used to the caffeine. I do not drink coffee all that often so when I tried it before a run, it worked counter-productively for me.

It's a diuretic yes, and I know for me and other 'O' blood types it creates excessive stomach acids which we already have enough of as 'O's are designed to digest animal protein better. So in that case I say no, but I do love me some Starbucks holiday drinks..

i am a HEAVY coffee drinker. however i have found that the less i drink the better the VEGA Sport performance optimizer works during competitions. i once went a whole moth without a drop of coffee and when i took a full serving of the Vega Sport prior to a crit, i really noticed a difference in my performance and mental focus. also the down side was that i couldn't fall asleep until 3 or 4 am that night.
Hello, I do believe coffee to be bad for you. I use to drink it every morning. It is of course, worse if you add cream and suger, but that much caffeine at one time is not good. Even if you have only one or two cups. It puts your body in a state of emergency. I switched to Green Tea and Yerba Mate. I alternate between the two or sometimes use them both. I love the change and feel great! They both still have caffeine, but less and are higher in nutrient value so you get a better overall feeling of wellness and alertness, without as much jitteryness and crash. The beautiful thing is that they taste good, (in my opinion), they're good for you and they will boost your workout performance! If you notice, Green tea and Yerba Mate are both present in Vega Performance Optimizer.
I tried a small test. I went a week without. Other than the taste, I didn't miss it in a withdraw sense. I did give into on a Saturday morning and maybe 15min. max after finishing it I felt the jitters =O ! I was shocked as I've only felt that once for coffee in over 20 years, LOL! I gave myself a few days then tried one again...almost the same results!

Either I made it too strong or the new coffee I bought is a stronger bold than the other ones I usually buy.

In any case, I've decided to limit my coffee to 1-2 cups on the weekend as a treat, and I'll definitely lower the intensity. This way, my body will have all week to flush the toxins out and regulate my acid levels.

I read in Dr. Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible, a lack of potassium causes caffeine cravings and a sweet tooth!

Whenever I drink coffee or crave chocolate, I always drink a big glass of water with a scoop of celtic sea salts in it to quench the cravings with minerals.

Coffee is bad for human health. Period. There are numerous studies and marketing materials that promote the "health benefits" of dairy and meat by their respective boards. Same goes for coffee. It's all hog wash. Anyone who understands how research works knows that you can always find something positive to promote. Here's the truth about coffee in a nut shell:

Coffee leaches out vitamins and minerals from your body. So everything healthy you consume, all that organic produce you overpay for, you're literally neutralizing its nutritional content with coffee consumption. You may as well microwave all your food while you're at it. That's why Nathan (above) found that the moment he took coffee out of his diet, VEGA worked much better.

Hope that helps.

I do the same.  Have a cup on the weekend for being clean during the week.  After being clean for that long though it doesn't taste as good as it used to.  Soy latte is my weekend treat :)

I also love a good decaf, and though I try to drink a lot of herbal and green tea instead, I still miss the java. I have been off of caffeine for a couple of years for medical reasons, but have tried to wean myself off of the decaf because of the acidity. However, I do allow myself a couple of large cups of decaf on the weekend (black with a sprinkle of cinnamon - heaven!). I justify it because of the antioxidants. It's my reward for being super clean all week :)
