share. learn. thrive!

I've been using Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer daily for over a year now, and ever since the beginning I've felt hungry fairly soon after drinking Vega. On rare occasions I feel satisfied for 2 to 3 hours, but I normally feel hungry within the hour and often to the extent that I begin to get a headache, feel a little dizzy and have strong hunger aches in my stomach - or in other words I get terribly hungry. I've found that adding fruit and a little shaved coconut to the Vega shake helps - but not much.

I usually have Vega as a late breakfast at 8:30 or 9am. I have a little oatmeal when I first get up (Around 5am) and often go out for a 5K walk at around 6am, so I try to have the Vega shake at least 45 minutes after finishing my exercise. However, the hunger I feel shortly after a Vega shake occurs whether I've exercised beforehand or not. I've also tried adding some Agave nectar for extra simple carbs, but that doesn't seem to help either.

Has anyone here experienced similar issues with Vega? I welcome your comments and suggestions.

If you have a decent blender you should really try adding some raw nuts in with your shake ( almonds or brazil nuts are super tasty) , or some dense leafy greens ( kale, collards) if you can stomach it.  I experience the same thing, but the hunger is actually a good thing! It stems from the potency of the probiotics that are in Vega helping your digestive system move along in absorbing and breaking down nutrients.
Thanks Matt: I don't think I can get kale or collards here, but I'll look for some other dense greens and certainly add some nuts as you suggested. Thank you also for the explanation about the probiotics. It's good to know what I'm feeling is actually a good thing.

Do you add anything to Vega, or do you just put the powder in water? I've been having it as breakfast for about half a year, and I feel hungry fairly fast when I just put in water, so usually I follow the 'Basic Vega smoothie' recipe on the back of Vega Smoothie Infusion package - 1 serving Vega Smoothie Infusion (30g I think), 1 cup water, 1/2 cup ice, 1/4th cup blueberries, 1 banana, and 1/2 cup orange juice. This seems to really help,  but I make it 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries. Doing this actually makes me feel more full then putting the full serving of the Health Optimizer (61g) in just water. However, if I do my running before breakfast I usually eat a Vega energy bar with it to feel satiated. So I would just try adding some more food to the smoothie, but if your still hungry I don't see any reason not to just eat a snack with it like the Vega energy bar, or something simple like a piece of celery.
Toss some chia seeds in a coffee grinder and then throw into your drink.  Keeps me satiated for a long time
Thanks Sunny: I just saw some chia seeds in the health food store yesterday, so I'll get some and give that a try.

Thank you Joshua: These are great suggestions. I do usually put some fruit in the Vega shake, but I decided to also add some almonds yesterday as a result of Matt's suggestion above, and I felt much better. Perhaps it's just a matter of trying different things to find a mix that works best for me. I especially like your last bit of advice to simply eat a snack if I'm still hungry. Thanks again for your help :-)

I add 1/2 a banana, strawberries, spinach and some almond milk. I use Vega as a pre or post workout meal replacement as well. Yes they do leave you a little hungry that is because Vega is easy for the body to digest.  I do eat within 1-2 hours after I consume a shake. Make sure you are eating  little meals through out the day to keep blood sugar in check and to keep you energized. I usually eat a small sweet potato with cinnamon and walnut 1-2 hours after a Vega shake and 1 hour after that a big salad and I always snack on fresh fruit or raw carrots to keep me satisfied.

Hope this helps

Yes, this is very helpful Melissa. Thank you. I like the sound of that sweet potato with cinnamon and walnut too :-)

Agree with Sunny about the Chia seeds - I depend on them heavily to keep the hungar pangs away during my long work shifts.
Thanks Orien.
