share. learn. thrive!

I have read as many suggestions as I can find, I have tried all the pans/pots in my house, I have moistened the seeds and used seeds direct from the package, I have seeds all over my kitchen now.  I get a few to pop but most do not.  I want to try some of thre recipes that use popped amaranth but since I don't have any I was wondering if anyone has found a suitable replacement.  The videos that I watch online show people using gas stove and mine is electric - if that is the trick it is not an easy or cheap fix just for one ingredient.  I also saw one person that was using what looked like a ceramic lined pot.  I know there are lots of discussions on this forum about this subject but didn't see any comments about other options for ingredients.

Hey Paula,
Welcome to the Vega community! Have you tried purchasing popped amaranth? I found some at my local health food store (it's with the puffed rice/quinoa/etc. In any case, you could substitute puffed quinoa for some of the recipes, I'm pretty sure that would work. :) Good luck!
I also cannot get the amaranth to "pop". I have looked for already popped amaranth locally but haven't found it yet. Do you know of a particular brand I can ask for?

I wasn't able to get the amaranth to pop either so I replaced it with popped quinoa, much easier to find and, I hope, equally good nutritionally
Thanks Riccardo. I'll look for that. I did buy some popped amaranth on-line but with the shipping it is a pretty expensive way to do it. I haven't had much time to play with it though. Hopefully this weekend. I did make the Pomegranate Amaranth Energy Bars (because pomegranates are in season) and they were worthy of making again.
