Hey I have a marathon coming up in January and will probably be running it with my iPod. During training I always have it with me and always seem to listen to the same bands because they get me pumped up and keep me in "the zone."

What are some of your favourite songs or artists that you listen to while training?
Also, what genre do you tend to listen to whilst training?

For me it's heavy metal. Bands like Lamb of God and Parkway Drive get me going...

OH, and the song, In for the Kill by La Roux is the song I always listen to before going out on an epic 2hr + run haha. You can listen to it here on youtube...make sure to turn up your bass! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq5GdutCRo8

My "last burst" song is Mstrkrft - Street Justice
I also like their CD "Fist of God". They are electronic/dance with a nice edge
my dirty secret is I listen to krump music. Ya.... awkward.....
I also love Deep Dish, Moby's CD "Last Night", Beast and Chromeo
Also, CBC Radio 3 releases a workout podcast from time to time, and those are fun
I will definitely check out your recommendations, I like music with "teeth" for my workouts...
Try adding Give it All by RIse Against to your playlist.
for running i cant listen to anything but tool. it has some real heavy stuff to get you going, the rhythm is great, and there is a zen-like/spiritual aspect that always helps me focus, and get lost in the moment at the same time.
I used to use this site loads: http://www.djsteveboy.com/podrunner.html.
They have free downloads which helped me with my interval training.
Now I compile my own mixes which range from cheesy pop to harder electro dance music.
I love a total mix from Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Kylie, Britney, Beyonce, Calvin Harris, Old Skool Dance compilations, etc.
Gotta say, I love me some Foo Fighters for my workout/run mixes. The latest Oasis and Switchfoot CDs have some great driving tracks on them ("The shock of the lightning," "Mess of Me"). Lately I've been listening to some DJ Tiësto, which can be great for zoning out to (free podcast - how can you go wrong?). Sometimes I'll throw on some Minus the Bear too. For grittier mixes, I'm partial to Chevelle.
This was a fun discussion I missed so I'm dredging it up again.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE! I can't sit still and listen to them. And I'm with Erin...TOOL gets me reved to!

Way back in the early ninties Calgary's original Gold's gym would be full midafternoons with nightclub staff and they would play our tapes (yes tapes) so we'ld be workin out to Anthrax, Motorhead, Metalica, Ministry, even crazy sh*t like Gwar. Maybe not such a great idea... who would join a gym full of hyper meatheads bangin their skulls on the equiptment...LOL ahhh! those were the good ol' days!
Music I great when your trainning.......for me when Im hitting the weights I gotta say my favoirte band would be hatebreed- songs like: this is it, Destroy everything, Satisfaction is the death of desire, live for it, another day another vendetta, call for blood and to be honset they havent made a bad song in my opinion
