Vega Community

share. learn. thrive!

Hey Vega Fans!
I'm working on new features/editorial for the Vega Community and I would love to get your input on what type of information you would like to see here.

A few ideas so far include:
• Polls
• Recipes contests
• Monthly challenges
• Photo contests
• More interviews

Tell me what you think of these and suggest any other fab ideas you have. Thanks for your feedback!

Recipes are important to me because I'm new to the Thrive in 30 (sort of new -- it's been almost two months). Some work, some don't. So, I'm always hunting around for something fun, interesting and good to make. Seeing recipes (not even contests) that people have tried and reviews on them would be helpful.
How about setting up a volunteer mentor program?

FAQ section? While I know you can search the forum, but sticky threads or faq with links to unique or commonly asked answers and questions. An example is the hidden tidbit on soaking amaranth for popping. The person said they knew it had been mentioned somewhere in the past on the forum...that's a great piece of information that others may want to know, but it's kind of buried and lost over time at the moment. It had to rely on an older members knowledge of it.

Research corner? Or book corner? I've seen a lot of mentions on the China Study and a few other books here and there, it could be interesting to have a section on current research or publications, or even a book discussion group/forum.

The GIS Map is awesome idea because then you could see if there were enough people in one area to even have a local "Trive day" or meetup group or mini nutrition conference with presentations etc..

Or you could do a virtual thrive day with special online presentations/talks or live chat, etc...
I love the above ideas, how about...
1. more about the company - ie spotlight people who work there, what they do, office goals/projects (I noticed once a picture of the office showing dollar bills hanging above some plants - is this a permanent installation or a "special occasion"), etc.
2. Maybe a monthly in-depth highlight/report on a specific concern / individual to do with the food or lifestyle - ie. some sources claim that some minerals / macronutrients in vegetables are less easily absorbed by the body - non-heme iron, protein, calcium, is this true?, soil nutrient depletion and re-mineralization - maybe some of these topics would come out of the "ask Brendan" section. It might make sense to occasionally have a nutritionist available to clarify on certain issues
3. Also, I'm ridiculously proud that this company has a Vancouver/Canada basis. Perhaps a local/community/volunteer arm to this site, which might expand in time to include other communities?
Love it ladies! Thanks for all the fantastic feedback. I really enjoy working on the community and really want everyone to get the most out of it. More good stuff coming!
Great! I am looking forward to it! :o)
A library section would be nice, somewhere people can go and look at what books people have read and which members recommend them or what the "Vegacommunity" rating is.
Thrive Friendly Restaurant and Health Food Store directory would be amazing. Perhaps one for Farmer's Markets as well. All of those are easy enough to find seperately on the web but having it all under one roof could be really helpful for a lot of people, especially those who are still a bit new to this fabulous way of life!
Maybe a chat room? It would be nice sometimes just to get to know some other members and have some live chat going.
I've been looking for visual support also since I think it would be good to follow the communities healthy lifestyle change. Having a section where people can post what they find works and does not and also have pics to go along with there monthly weigh in and stats would be a good visual inspiration for those who wish to participate. For myself I am still trying to visualize what I would look like at my goal of 150 lbs...I'm currently at 206 lbs and am 5'6" so for a male I actually would like to be lean since I've been big all my life but because of fat weight not muscle weight...I'd prefer lean muscles anyways. My ideal goal is to go slow and loose the weight I do have a formula of losing 1-2 lbs every week but I also have been taking my time and not trying to rush since I hear that the quicker you loose the quicker you can gain it back....just some ideas and enough of my rambling LOL
