I'm not an athlete; just an average person whose only exercise is walking and working in the garden. In the dead of winter when it's friggin cold outside, my exercising is like a brown bear, except for walking to the bus stop to go to work during the weekdays. I'm looking for an exercise machine as I don't like going to fitness clubs. Can I ask a question about exercise machines in here? If I'm in the wrong forum, please let me know or re-direct me.

I attended the National Women's Show in Toronto yesterday. There was an exhibitor selling exercise machines called: T-Zone Vibration. A 10-minute workout on it is equal to 1 hour at the gym. After reading up about it on the website (www.t-zonevibration.com), I don't know....... I'm a bit skeptical here. lol.... This machine is not that cheap either. Or am I better off with a treadmill or an elliptical machine? Which one is best?

Hi Ellen,
I've seen these machine once in a Health show and I too would be very skeptical. Basically there are ways to maximize your exercise so that what you produces the best result but overall though there is a minimum that needs to be done. I'm sure that using those machines might be better than doing nothing but their claim that :"10 minutes MAY produce similar benefits to an hour of training in the gym" is vague and depends on what they mean by similar benefits and also an hour of training if the gym.

I personally would suggest an elliptical machine because it is not weight bearing and you could also use it as an alternative to walking in the summer. If you get treadmill you will only have one form of exercise. But it's really up to you, if you love walking then the treadmill is a better option. Otherwise you could try buying a few DVD (Pilates, yoga, total body workout) and perhaps you can also try doing some exercises with your own body weight as increasing your strength and muscle tone will activate your metabolism.

All the best
Anne
I'd be hesitant about these machines too. Have you thought about getting a few workout DVDs? Sometimes even the library has copies. You could add in hand weights and tubes as well. Or bundle up big time and venture outdoors anyways? I know the Running Room has some outdoor winter clothes.
