share. learn. thrive!

i'm a little frustrated: i hear a lot about how easy it is to be an athlete and a vegan, but i don't seem to be able to find anything that tells me exactly what someone ate for a whole week and how long it took them to make the food. I am not a vegan, but would like to more or less eat like a vegan. However, i don't want to spend countless hours preparing meals. any advice?" any sites that have good meal plans?

Hi tyras,

I think most people say its easy to eat vegan as an athlete, because they've been doing it for a while.
Transitioning for many people is a daunting talk because they have to learn all new recipes, meals, etc.

My suggestion is to try and do a slow transition--even if its trying a couple recipes from the thrive diet a week, and slowly building up your veganism is a good idea. You can also check out some cookbooks by Sarah Kramer and Chandra Moskowitz (hope I have the spelling correct).
In terms of meal preparation, the recipes in the thrive diet and other books took me a long time to do the first couple times, But after doing it a few times I got the hang of it and now can make stuff quite quickly

Aside from this community which is great! I suggest you check out www.veganbodybuilding.com Its a great forum of vegan athletes and will have many recipe and training ideas. Some people post their diet plans and have training journals.

Hi Tyras, I totally understand- I felt this way for years trying to transition from vegetarian to vegan. The books and authors Sam mentions are great, and there are also some menus and recipes in Thrive. I found that Joel Fuhrman's book, Eat to Live, was really helpful for my transition. His stuff is simple- salads, veggies, soups and smoothies- and it somehow clicked for me. Salads and smoothies are quick and easy to prepare, and soup is something that you can make in a huge batch to last several days. I did what was simplest for me- and ultimately that's the only thing that works for anybody. On occasion I make more sophisticated meals, but I've found simple is what I stick to. Good luck!
