I am an avid runner (raw vegan) recently diagnosed with two compression fractures T6 and T8. What nutrient am I lacking that may have attributed to this? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Apparently you don't drink enough beer:

Otherwise, potassium and calcium. Calcium for the bones, potassium to stop calcium being passed out of the body via urine. Bananas and apples can help you here.

What did the doctor say when you asked him/her about the possible cause after finding out you had these compound fractures?

The doc was pretty clueless, I was at ER, trying to get appt with orthopedic, believe it or not I can't get an appt because I have no Ins. I eat tons of apples and bananas!!!! Don't drink beer, I guess if it doesn't help with fractures I won't care as much!

Yeah the beer seems to be more of a preventative thing. You can't get an appointment because of no insurance? That's quite unfortunate. Are you able to perhaps find a GP who can review the xrays and then refer you to someone they know who will take you without insurance, even just for a consulation?

Oh i just checked where you are. United States. Umm... yeah. If you can do it without taking out a mortgage on your home, i'd go with my suggestion, but i really can't say too much else apart from getting the opinion of someone who has studied this sort of thing. We can all speculate, but i think if you've had to go to the ER, it would be well above most people here.

Thanks Phil, Yes believe it or not when I tried to make an appt, they said that they can not schedule someone without Ins unless the Dr gives them written approval. I'm trying to get copies of the xrays so I can take them to GP so he can refer me to someone who knows what they are looking at. I was in such intense pain on Sunday night I drove myself to the ER, you can only imagine how much that's going to cost! Thanks for your help

I would even suggest looking at your magnesium intake. Since magnesium is used to shuttle calcium out of soft-tissue (where it isnt supposed to be) and into the bones.

Potent sources of magnesium are raw chocolate and Maca.
